Thurs 17th Aug: Pugs, shih tzus and sharpeis

Funny Arthur

Pugs are one of those breeds that some people absolutely love, and they are very funny snuffly, snory kind of dogs.  Arthur is still young at only two years, while today we were asked by AFCD if we could take a senior that was surrendered by his owner at almost twelve year of age.  How sad, really very sad.
Surrendered at almost 12 years of age

This shih tzu is a boy, 2 years old

There's also a young shih tzu at AFCD, again two years old, who was found as a stray, which is quite a coincidence as this is the second shih tzu found on the streets in a matter of a couple of weeks.  They are also the same age so I wonder if there's a connection, especially as we don't see too many shih tzus these days.
Another sharpei at AFCD

A breed we see a huge number of are sharpeis, and I really have no idea where they all come from.  Are there really breeders still producing these dogs as fast as they're being abandoned?  We recently took in a lovely smaller sized sharpei girl from AFCD, and of course there's Sharlene who is scheduled to have her jaw surgery on Monday.  She has a home waiting if she pulls through, so we're really pinning our hopes on a successful outcome.

Very sweet and small-sized Pudding

There comes a point when finding any space for newcomers is impossible, so some of the small and medium sized dogs are moving to Lamma.  These are the ones who are really very shy, so finding a home for them is pretty much a hopeless task, even with the best of intentions and the efforts of the staff and volunteers who have been doing their best.   The Kennedy Town Homing Centres are small, and the area is fairly busy so walks are challenging for the less confident dogs.

Erin

The first two dogs to make the move today were Erin (very shy), and Hetty.  Hetty has actually come a long way since she arrived at our Elgin Street location, but she needs more space and a quiet area where she can enjoy running around without any traffic.  For all the volunteers who love Hetty in particular, and there are many, don't worry, I'll be regularly updating on her progress.
