Sun 20th Aug: 50% to 100%

Today's photographer at the Whiskers N Paws Puppy Party was Laura Nie  Puppy Adoption Day 20th Aug 2023, and she was lucky enough to be there to capture the adoption moment of  sweet boy Merlin. I have to admit we'd been expecting at least one other adoption, but my enthusiasm mentioned in yesterday's post was indeed premature.  Still, the non-appearance of this particular adopter was only a delay, not a cancellation, so I'm only 50% disappointed.
Katie's trial has become Indie's adoption

I suppose a trial also counts as a 50% adoption, or perhaps more of a 75% assuming there's a good chance that the dog will be staying, just as I was pretty sure about Katie, whose adoption is now confirmed with the new name of Indie.  Her family say she's a very sweet and gentle dog, just as we had described her.

Violet

Another doglet left our Tai Po Homing Centre for a trial today, an ex-Kennedy Town puppy who grew too big to stay at the small Centre.  Violet is one of the "V" litter who moved to Tai Po together,  and it's always lovely to hear that one of our grown up babies has been given a chance of a real home.
Three girl puppies

It's extremely difficult these days when we get asked to take in puppies, especially as there are still those waiting at AFCD and all of the Animal NGO's are also overloaded.  The situation really got out of control during the Covid period, and it hasn't improved since then.  Puppies are being born at an alarming rate, and when nobody has space to take them in they either die, or they go on to start producing puppies themselves.  I was told this particular litter was born to a dog belonging (loosely I assume) to an old man, and while he had given some away (no doubt they will also be having puppies soon as well), there were three females left.  The photos I was sent showed fairly young puppies, so we arranged for a foster home to look after them for a short period, until they became too boisterous.   The problem was that when the puppies turned up at our Tai Po Centre, it was clear they were considerably older than we had assumed, so they weren't suitable for the planned foster home.  Now we have no choice but to send them to Kennedy Town and hope that they will either soon find homes, or they can be fostered individually. They're all girls, around four months old, and we were told the mother is a medium size.

If you're able to foster, please complete the form at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/fostering, and for adoptions it's www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
