Sat 2nd Sept: Getting back to normal

Today was mostly about clearing, cleaning and getting things back to shape, but of course we were open for business as usual, just as we are on every other day of the year.

Yuri was found thankfully

We still had some dogs leaving for foster homes, while others were already coming back. I have to admit I sometimes wonder if it's fair on the dogs to send them out for one day, which in itself is confusing for most of them, or whether they would be better to be kept at the Homing Centre regardless of the weather.  Inevitably at least one dog gets lost during the rush to get them into short-term foster homes, and this time it was Yuri who managed to escape.  Luckily he was staying not too far from our Tai Po Homing Centre, and our staff members plus volunteers went out first thing on Sunday and managed to catch him.

Yuri has been with us since he was a puppy, and it was this incident (one of the family left the door open without thinking) that reminded me of him.  Yuri is a very sweet and easy dog, still only a year old, and he's one of too many lovely young adults who are still waiting to be chosen for adoption.  Please don't let these dogs grow old without ever knowing the love of a forever family, especially when they have been in foster care as puppies (thinking of those like Pixie, still not even a year old).

Pixie was in a foster home during her puppy months

Of course "real" foster homes are priceless, and we couldn't function without them.  If you haven't seen the updates on the three doglets and one puppy taken for fostering by Lyndsay (Instagram @why_i_foster) then please take a look.  The three black-and-white youngsters are beautiful and small-sized, while Jasper is very much a lab-alike.

The family of 10 arrived in May

Two Kennedy Town seniors also left for a wonderful short staycation with one of our dedicated volunteers, adopter and supporter, all rolled into one. You can see Grace and Glenn looking very happy on Instagram @uglyyorkie, and they couldn't have better care.  However they need a forever home please!

Again I was reminded that we still have one younger member of this family of ten who came as one big pile of poodles. Grainger was adopted for a very short time, actually less than a day, because he was apparently too active!  He's such a sweet boy, just like the rest of the family were, so surely there's a poodle fan who would love to give this boy a home.

We were also asking for fosters (hopefully with the intention of adopting) for the younger puppies at Kennedy Town.  Dumpling left today, and hopefully Sunday will see others also joining their new families.

For all adoption enquiries please start by completing the questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/.
