Fri 4th March: The magic word is "delivery"

The Doberman girl has heartworm

The three dogs arrived from AFCD Sheung Shui, two mixed breeds and a Doberman, adding even more to the already very large number of dogs at our Tai Po Homing Centre.   It's not just the additional burden placed on the few staff left to take care of so many, it's also the cost of making sure the new dogs get checked by a vet and treated accordingly.  We already know that the Doberman has heartworm, and we have to wait to see about the other two and if they're also infected.  The chances are high that they will be, based on the other dogs that have come to us from the New Territories.
Another new girl from AFCD

The two dogs taken in on Thursday after being abandoned by their family also hadn't had anything done since they were puppies.  The boy, Cassius, needed to have a lump removed from his leg on top of all the standard blood tests and vaccination updates, and every single procedure costs money.

The third new girl, all without names yet

Thankfully we're now feeding almost all of the dogs with regular donations from Buddy Bites , and we're very grateful to them for their amazing contribution.  That's a huge amount that we don't have to pay out every month to feed so many hungry mouths.  If you want to find out more just check out their Facebook page, and there's that magic word "delivery" that means so much these days!

That reminds me that growsFreshthe donors of regular supplies of fresh organic bones for the dogs also deliver, and not just meat but also fruit and vegetables.  I'll be putting in my order later today for sure.

Every donation means a lot to us, in whichever form it takes.  Please just remember that we can't accept anything that isn't small or edible at our current Ap Lei Chau "Red Dog" Centre at 21 Main Street,  as it's very small and there's no storage space at all.

A reminder too that for the time being we won't be holding the Sunday puppy parties at

Whiskers N Paws (who also deliver, by the way), but our two lovely ambassadors, Lucy and Lorna, are there to provide cuddles and puppy love whenever needed.  Every little bit helps.
