Fri 18th March: Two different stories with the same result

Reggie is large but soft and sweet

It goes without saying that when we home puppies we assume that it's going to be for life, and that the puppy will grow old with the family and stay with them until the end.  Sadly that's not always the case and sometimes it's nobody's fault, such as in the case of Reggie.  Even though the parents had had several dogs before adopting Reggie, and still have a German shepherd at home, one of the children turned out to be extremely allergic to Reggie's coat.  You might think this is very strange, but funnily enough it's not too unusual for different dogs' coats to produce different reactions.  Sharpeis, for example, are the worst in terms of allergic reactions and it's quite likely that Reggie has some sharpei in him (most Hong Kong mixed breeds do).  Long-haired dogs are better for those with allergy problems, and I'm not sure why but it could be because the coats are softer.  Regardless of the reasons, Reggie's family have tried everything to keep him with them, but the allergy is too serious and the young son is really suffering, so of course we'll take Reggie back.   He's grown into a large-sized dog, but very sweet and gentle and great with children, so maybe he's just the right dog for you.  If so, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
"We adopted Reggie on 24 October last year, he has been such a joy to the whole family, he is such a sweet, gentle and happy boy. Currently 27kg, Reggie is very very gentle with kids and sweet to everyone in the family, I often take him to pick up the kids from the school, and he was never aggressive to any strangers. He is already potty trained. "

Opal's beautiful smile

When Loki-Puddle was adopted recently I said he was the last of our current "Little Whites", but today we took back another one, this time a girl called Opal.  Opal came to us as one of a litter of newborns, all of whom were taken into foster care where they were raised until they were old enough to be adopted.  Sadly Opal's home didn't turn out to be what we had wanted for her (or any of our dogs for that matter) and I asked that she be returned to us. I won't go into detail, but we were all very relieved and happy to get Opal back, and she's now staying at our Tai Po Homing Centre with another young dog, Watson.  I think she's going to really enjoy being able to play and have fun.  Again, if you're interested in offering Opal (or Watson) a home, please complete the questionnaire.

Baby Opal and brother Jet

Opal has a new friend in Watson

We have SO many really sweet and lovely dogs and puppies waiting for homes, so taking back grown puppies like Reggie and Opal is really not what we wanted or needed.  However their situations meant we couldn't turn them away, nor would we dream of doing so having known both of them as baby pups, and with their early-life foster parents having loved and cared for them so well.
