Thurs 3rd June: No protection for animals in Hong Kong

Chimney (a girl)

It's coming up for the weekend again and that means getting ready for  adoption meetings at both Homing Centres, as well as arranging interviews with foster puppies in their respective homes.  There's lots of interest in little Sooty after I shared his beautiful photo, but there are others in his litter too, namely Nero, Tarmac, Chimney and Shadow.  The "Beach Babies" are also almost ready for their new homes, and again you can meet them by contacting Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.
Coral and Salty are two of the Beach Babies

I happened to drop by at AFCD Pokfulam today and learned that there was a chihuahua just surrendered, as well as two medium-sized adult dogs from a cruelty case that were ready for release. I wanted to take all three on Friday but it seems Monday is going to be the day.  The cruelty case dogs are two of several that have been there for a very long time waiting for the court case, and I doubt you'll be surprised to know that there was no punishment for the ex-owner as there had been food and water provided.  Many people contact us to report cases of cruelty, but the laws in Hong Kong are so lax that it's extremely difficult to successfully prosecute  anyone, and you have to have done something extreme for charges to stick.  In terms of animal protection, Hong Kong is worse than many third-world countries, and the Hong Kong Government should be ashamed.

I'm not sure which is Suzy or Peppa

The latest arrivals at our Tai Po Homing Centre now have names, Suzy and Peppa, and it turned out that the younger one is sister to another puppy (Polo) that we recently took in.  There are so many puppies now that I keep losing track of who and where they are, so I'm happy that at least Cindy, our volunteer Foster Coordinator, has a handle on things.
