Fri 3rd Jan: Changing behaviour

I took the last remaining dog out of AFCD Pokfulam kennels today, barring a little old white poodle which is still waiting to be released.  For whatever reason there have been very few dogs coming to this particular Animal Management Centre over the past few months, which is obviously a very good thing, although I don't know about the other Centres at Shatin, Sheung Shui and Kowloon but I'm hoping this is an overall trend that will continue going forwards.  The dog I took out today isn't one I would consider to be instantly homeable and he was very scared, but the staff at Tai Po work magic on these types so we'll see how Pedro fares.

Tinker had her adoption confirmed today
Tinker, along with sister Taylor, was one of those scaredy dogs, coming to us as very cute but timid puppies.  They were taken for fostering for a while but were returned when their foster parent admitted she hadn't made any headway in changing their fearful behaviour, and since then they've been at Tai Po and having the benefit of help from the team of staff and volunteers.  Today after a short trial period Tinker had her adoption confirmed, and we're hoping Taylor will be following soon and going off to her new home.
Taylor as a very cute by shy puppy

Working with these genetically shy dogs in a challenge, but it's not impossible to change their behaviour.  Many, if not most of the dogs that still live with me on Lamma started off as scared puppies meaning they were unsuitable for homing, but they've all settled into their way of life and being quite happy to be around me.  Some still don't like to be touched, but most of them love cuddles and affection now.

On Saturday we'll be sending some of our puppies and smaller-sized adults to Concordia Pet Care in Happy Valley, 2pm to 5pm, if you're looking for a new family member.  Mia, Midge and Lindy will be going to the adoption event, while sweet Romeo the Frenchie will stay behind at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre.  Thanks as always to volunteer Harryn for the lovely photos.
Romeo loves people but not other dogs so much
These are all lovely, young and smaller adults
