Thurs 21st March: Lucky escapees

Four of the five babies
I took the bichon frise mother and her five puppies to Acorn today to be microchipped and vaccinated before they start to head off to their new families. Dr Joe estimated they were coming up for six weeks of age, but they are so small it's only their teeth that indicate what stage they are at, and they are still too young to be taken as singletons.  Whatever mix they are they are very, very cute, and the mother, estimated to be aound four years old, is also a lovely and very sweet dog.

We can only guess that the reason this mother and her litter were lucky enough to be thrown out by the breeder/hoarder is because the pups aren't any particular breed, and the mother's milk had dried up meaning her babies needed to be fed.  That they escaped when they did means the pups will have no memory of their past, and I'm sure the mother, now Fizzy, will also soon forget.

Spud living the life he deserves
Also from the same place, the last of the pug group and the only male has his adoption confirmed today.  Like all of the others Spud wasn't in great shape when he arrived, but he's done really well and is enjoying life to the full now.

12 year-old Henna's big smile says it all.
Another foster-to-home adoption that really warmed our hearts was that of golden retreiver Henna, a senior lady who has finally found her retirement and forever family.  It means a lot that the older dogs can enjoy what is left of their time in peace and comfort, and Henna certainly looks happy with her new life.

You may have seen the posts on Facebook regarding the recall of some Hills canned food, and this is from their own Facebook page:

We are deeply sorry to announce that we are expanding our January 31, 2019, voluntary canned dog food recall due to elevated levels of vitamin D.
Because of our ongoing commitment to quality and safety, we’ve conducted a detailed review of our canned dog foods. Our review determined that there are additional products affected by the same vitamin D premix that caused the January 31st recall. No dry foods, cat foods, or treats are affected.
