Sun 10th March: Freepace and other happenings

Angelo by Yaping Liu
Today was one those days when lots of small things added together made everything difficult, not helped by the fact that we really need more Sunday afternoon volunteers at Whiskers N Paws, especially if we're using both inside and out.  There were three of us for this afternoon's puppy session, but at one point I needed to take young Angelo to AFCD to have him licensed, which is another whole story in itself.  To cut that one short, you may remember he was adopted last Sunday but that didn't work out so he came back, and still without a microchip.  Although he's not five months old yet he had to have his rabies vaccination along with the chip, so that's at least done now.

If you would like to become a regular Sunday volunteer at Whiskers N Paws please let me know, but I do need to ask that you are able to commit to coming at least most weekends, be over eighteen and know something about dogs, or be willing to learn.  You should also be confident in talking to people, which may include having to reject some potential adopters which is never easy.  My email is sallyandersen@hongkongdogrescue.com if you would like to become one of the team.

Sugar will have lots of friends in her new home
We had three photographers today with long-term volunteer Jimmy Tsang being the main one
Puppy Adoption Day 10 March 2019 - Part 1 , and two who we hope will become regulars.  We're always grateful for all donations of skills and time, so thank you to Simon Chan Puppy Adoption Day 10 March 2019 - Part 2,   and Yaping Liu for some beautiful portrait shots  Puppy Adoption Day 10 March 2019 - Part 3.

While Sugar was adopted outright, two other puppies were also taken for trials but I'll wait to give their names as I always do.
Sweet and funny Gypsy with new best friend

Also taking place over the weekend was the "HKDR x FreeSpace Happening at West Kowloon Cultural District"

10 HKDR dog ambassadors spent their weekend at FreeSpace Happening, meeting visitors and explaining to the public about HKDR’s work and mission, how adoption saves lives and being proud to be the perfect breed - “Rescued”.

You can see on all the photos how well-behaved our dogs were with the small children and their families. They have proved themselves to be loving individuals who deserve a real home to call their own. Many visitors were amazed by our dogs’ calmness and cuteness, and they wondered why they are still waiting to be adopted. We wonder why too! These adult dogs won’t cause trouble and mess up your house as they only want a big soft bed to sleep on. Will you consider taking them home?

This event may not be the most effective one to raise big funds, but it's definitely one of the most meaningful and educational outreach experiences.

Thanks everyone who visited us over the two days, and thanks especially to the volunteers who were willing to come and help under the rain. Big thanks too to Whiskers N Paws for providing their Name Tag Making service (with all proceeds donated to HKDR). We are so blessed to have all these!
