Weds 16th Jan: Bad news for Zara

Part husky, part German shepherd?
As I had my regular day at home today, Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre Manager, Iris, went to Pokfulam AFCD to take out the mystery dog.  He's a mystery because we can't work out quite what he is in terms of breed mix with his fluffy ears and very particular face markings, and also because it seems so strange that he was found wandering (in the Pokfulam Mount Davis area) wearing a new collar and leash attached, but with no microchip.  I explained the possible reason for there being no chip in yesterday's blog, but still nobody has turned up to claim him.

Now this gorgeous and incredibly sweet older puppy/young adult is staying at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, happily playing with the other dogs there and with all of the staff and volunteers already in love.  There's still a chance that someone might see this post and recognise his or her lost dog, but now he's licensed in my name and will be seeing a vet on Thursday for his health check and vaccination, with desexing following soon.   If you know this dog, now called Busby because of his furry "hat", or would like to adopt him, please complere the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt).

Everything had been prepared for Zara's flight to New Zealand
There was some bad news today about Malamute Zara who had been adopted and was all set to fly to New Zealand next month to start her new life there.  It turned out that in the area where she would be living there is a maximum of two dogs allowed per household, and there is already a poodle and bichon in the family, both adopted in Hong Kong.  This restriction on the number of dogs per home also applies in Australia in case you weren't aware, and I think it's rather harsh when no allowance is made regarding the size.  However my opinion won't change anything and Zara is now in need of a new home, although very luckily still with her foster parents (who also have several of their own dogs).  Once again please complete the Adoption Questionnaire if you are interested in adopting Zara, bearing in mind she is a very large dog and needs space.

Everyone in the office is busy preparing for the coming weekend's Pet Expo (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) including our van driver Ming, who has to make trips to the warehouse to pick up the many boxes of merchandise and displays that will be needed for the event.  For the days prior to any big event the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre and office resemble a giant storeroom, and I won't be able to use the van for any dog pick-ups or drop-offs tomorrow.   There's going to be a lot of great bargains to pick up at the Expo, including special offers on Stella & Chewy's food products.

HKDR will be holding Charity Sales at the coming Pet Expo! Thank you to our generous supporter Stella & Chewy’s HK for their donation of raw freeze-dried products. 100% of the sale proceeds will be supporting HKDR’s work. Come and support!

🔸Date: 18-20th Janurary 2019
