Tues 15th Jan: Education, education, education

Sybil and Minnie also took part in today's interview (photo by Harryn)
Educating and informing the general public about all aspects of responsible pet ownership is one of the very important issues we try to address, and today I took part in an interview with Hellodog as part of that initiative.  I was joined at Ap Lei Chau by celebrity illustrator Mickco Chan and his ex-HKDR dog Minnie to talk about what adoption means and how we can try to do more to encourage people to open their minds to alternatives to the pet shops and breeders, as well as the obsession with designer breeds.  It took the whole afternoon to complete the round of video interviews and a succession of photo-taking in various locations, but it's important to try to get the message across.

Apart from Minnie I had mother-and-daughter Maltese Sybil and Maud with me, a gorgeous pair who had been adopted but then very sadly returned, so they are now once again available but must stay together as a pair.  Please visit them at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre if you are interested in giving a home to two very sweet and inseparable  ladies.

There's an interesting dog at the Pokfulam AFCD kennels that I've been waiting to take out.  He (I think it's a boy) was picked up as a stray in Mid-levels, wearing a nice new collar with leash attached but without a microchip.  It was assumed he was someone's dog and that he would be claimed, but so far nobody has turned up.  He's a large-sized mixed breed but such an unsual-looking one, so if you have lost a dog like this or know of anyone who has, he will be with us on Wednesday.   We were all puzzled about the lack of a microchip for a dog that seems to be well cared for, but it's quite possible that he was chipped as a baby and the chip fell out.  This often happens when I take puppies from AFCD and then on to Acorn, only to find that at least one of a litter doesn't have the chip inside.  It's a problem I've discussed many times for exactly the reason just mentioned, that while I always discover the missing chip immediately, if you were a private dog owner you would just assume that everything was fine.  Let's see if anyone claims this dog after I can post a photo, and if not then I'm sure he won't have to wait long to find a new home.

This weekend we'll be at the Pet Expo
at Wan Chai HKCEC Hall3 (Booth Q07, Q09)with all sorts of merchandise for sale, including a very limited edition T-shirt designed by Paintinks by Melt.

In addition it's Saturday Puppy time at Concordia Pet Care followed by the long-standing Whiskers N Paws Puppy afternoon on Sunday, 2pm to 5pm.  Here again are the photos from last Sunday by Eric Tang  Puppy Adoption Day 13 January 2019
and remember that adopting from HKDR means ongoing support from our very experienced trainer, Cactus, as well as many other benefits.
