Weds 7th June: The cost of caring

Becca had knee surgery today

Thank you to everyone who offered a foster home for little Becca, and I'm happy to say she has somewhere to go to when she leaves Acorn on Thursday following her knee surgery.  We had to take the chance of having the surgery done even before we had a foster because Dr Tony will be heading off for his summer break soon, and we want to get as many knees, hips and other moving bits sorted out before then.
Jolene

Another lucky little dog who had - and passed - her adoption interview today was Jolene, a very sweet scruffy girl who'd been overlooked due to her unusual appearance.  I already knew she had a volunteer fan club, and I was very taken with her myself as I like these funny dogs, so I was very happy to know that she'll be leaving on Thursday.

Jinks

We received the MRI results for poor little Jinks today, and it seems his condition is irreversible, meaning he will never be able to stand on his front legs.  I don't know if it's going to be possible, but I was wondering whether leg braces would work, and that's something worth investigating.  We'd been hoping that removal of the pellet from the base of Jinks' ear would make a big difference, but sadly not.

Talking of all the surgeries we're arranging and the costs involved, I'd like to remind you of the various ways that you can support HKDR other than making a direct donation, which is also greatly appreciated of course. You can check out all of donation options at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/donate/

By joining the Life Saver Club you can "adopt" a dog through monthly sponsorship.  There are different levels of sponsorship so it doesn't have to mean committing to a large sum, and if you would like to know more please email Eva at lifesaver@hongkongdogrescue.com for information.

Coin Dragon 換幣龍 is a great way to donate all of those heavy coins that seem to build up in your purse or pocket, and there are Coin Dragons all over Hong Kong who will gladly accept any coins and convert them into a direct donation to HKDR (or the charity of your choice).

By organising any event or party through Twopresents  you can also choose to donate to HKDR while having all the hassle taken care of.

We also happily accept direct donations of canned food, treats and dog chews, especially the real dried meat types.   Toys are also very welcome, as the puppies and small dogs, including those on Lamma, love to have new things to play with.
