Mon 5th June: Surgery fosters needed for Becca and Tatum

One of the most common problems in small dogs is patella luxation, meaning a kneecap that doesn't sit properly in the "track" and slips out from time to time.  There are different grades of severity, but even with the least severe grade it's really best to get the problem fixed while the dog is still young as the condition will deteriorate and cause pain and lameness as the dog ages.

One of the dogs that came to us last week as one of the "B" intake is Becca, and she was showing on-off lameness followed by stretching, which is one of the ways a dog will pull the kneecap back into place (see the video below).  They may also kick the leg back to achieve the same result, but either way this is a sure sign that surgery is required.   Now we need a foster home for Becca so she can have the surgery as soon as possible, and of course we hope that this will end up being an adoption.  If you can foster Becca to start, please complete the questionnaire if not already done at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/fostering/

Tara

I'm very happy to report two small dog adoptions, one being tiny Tara the poodle, and another poodle Lulu, who was taken for fostering the day she arrived as one of the "L" intake.
Lulu

I was back at the office in Elgin Street today where Tara's "sister", Tatum, is still waiting for her foster home so she can have surgery on her knees too.  Again, please complete the fostering questionnaire if you can take in this really sweet and small poodle girl during her recovery.

Also just in, confirmation of the adoption of another of the "B" intake, this time Brody.

Brody/Ccino is already very much part of the family

"Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to take Brody home for an adoption trial. Brody has done very well settling at our home. I am so pleased to confirm our adoption for him. My son has named him “Ccino” after Cappuccino while our other dog is called Latte. The two names match well with one another! We took the two out for lunch at the Stable Cafe at the Hong Kong Jockey Club after taking Ccino from your Centre (see photo attached).

Ccino is exceptional calm as a young adult dog and not demanding at all. He has a lovely temperament and is friendly with people when being approached, exactly the type of dog we are looking for. It would be difficult not to have him as part of our family.

We are working on his toilet training. He doesn’t seem to have much experience in walking and is not used to do his toileting outdoor. It’s hard to imagine the type of life this batch of dogs had been through before they were rescued."

Boris needs a home!

We're still waiting for a home or foster for the last of the three huskies at our Tai Po Homing Centre, and although it's a little bit cooler at the moment thanks to the rain, it's miserable for a husky to have to live outside.

In fact, almost all of the Tai Po dogs have to live outside, and even with shelter it's nothing like the comforts of a proper home.  So many of the dogs we have staying with us have experienced what a real family life is like, and it must be very hard for them.  Please come to meet them and perhaps give them that second chance.  We're open every single day of the year, no exceptions.
