Sun 11th June: The B's and the Z's

Thankfully there was another adoption at our Kennedy Town, North Street Centre, as fluffy little Bea left today.   She will have another ex-HKDR dog as a friend and mentor, which is the ideal situation for any puppy.  Now there is just one of the first-round "B" puppies left, as well as the six second-round "B" intake.

All of the latest "B" dogs and puppies will be heading off to Concordia Pet Care in Happy Valley on Monday morning for their health checks and licensing (for the adults), and we'll have a better idea of their ages.   From my own assessment at least some of the adults are young, and only Briggs the poodle seems to be a bit older judging by his teeth.

I shared a video of the two basset hounds, Bentley and Bertha, on our HKDR Facebook page as I wanted to show how bonded they are, so we're looking for a home where they can stay together.  I don't think having two lovely dogs is any harder than having one, and seeing them so obviously happy with each other's company means it would be too sad to break them up.

Look at Liam!

Jimmy Tsang was our volunteer photographer at the regular Sunday Puppy Party at Whiskers N Paws today
Puppy Adoption Day 12th June 2023, and you can see everyone having lots of fun as always.   Some of our regular attendees couldn't make it, namely Ali (still my favourite) who was recently spayed and is still recovering from the surgery, and the Instagram @why_i_foster group of Pepper, Luke and Avia.  It was puppy boy Liam's first time at the Sunday event, and you can see from the photos that he had a total blast, showing no fear with the bigger puppies and just wanting to make the most of his time on the terrace.

Boris enjoying the view from his new foster home

Some good news came from Tai Po as the last of the huskies, Boris, was picked up by his new fosters, and he's already enjoying life indoors with air-conditioning.

Zach and Ziti are now the "Z" brothers

There was also an update on ex-Tai Po dog Zach, who has been staying with one of our regular adopter-foster homes while he recovered from having surgery on his typically small sharpei-type ears.  This is called TECA, or Total Ear Canal Ablation, and it's often the only remedy for ear canals that have completely closed due to infection.  The problem with very small ears that are pinned closely to the side of the head is that natural ear cleaning can't take place, and this results in constant infections.  The same applies to long-eared dogs like spaniels and basset hounds, so daily ear cleaning is vital if you want to avoid serious problems throughout a dog's life.  Anyway, going back to Zach, he has just arrived in England to join another ex-HKDR dog, Ziti, who looks like a bigger version of Zach.  The two are already getting along like long-lost brothers, and I can't thank this particular adopter-foster for sponsoring both the surgery and the flight costs for Zach, and previously Ziti.  It's incredibly kind and generous, and the result is two extremely lucky and happy dogs.
