Mon 6th March: Happy adoption news

Bye bye Beano!

More happy news from HKDR's main Tai Po Homing Centre as regular adopter of seniors, Terry, took another old boy home to live out his days in comfort, and this time it was Beano who was chosen.  Thank you Terry, for your kindness.  Taking care of the oldies isn't always easy, as I know only too well, but knowing that they will end their days in a real home is very comforting.
Layla joins the tan-and-white family

Also graduating from Tai Po was Layla, and I think you can easily spot the theme here.  I have said many times how difficult it must be to have to choose one dog or puppy out of so many, but matching the colour scheme narrows it down considerably.

Francine and family

There was a foster fail I mentioned last week, that of French bulldog Francine, but I have only just received the family photo. Francine came to us from AFCD  where she had been surrendered with heartworm, and for some unusual reason she was treated while at AFCD kennels.  Unfortunately, as happens in some (fortunately rare) cases, it seemed that it was the treatment itself that badly affected Francine, and when she came to us she was really quite ill with heart problems.  It's taken a long time but happily Francine's condition is now stable, and her foster family have been taking care of her for so long that she's already very much a part of their life and now she's formally adopted.

It's sad that heartworm is still so prevalent, especially in the New Territories and Outlying Islands where there are more mosquitoes, the carriers of the disease.  Almost 100% of the adult dogs that come to us from these areas are infected, and apart from the cost of the treatment and the long recovery period, as we know from cases like Francine's, even the treatment can cause problems, and occasionally even death.  It's so easy to prevent heartworm, but either there's still a huge number of people who have never heard of it, or they just don't care.

Kelly

A small group of dogs and two puppies are due to arrive at HKDR@Elgin on Tuesday afternoon, those that I had mentioned before as being in need of homes.  I'm not going to show a photo of the poodle again because he already has a line of people wanting to adopt, but there are also two lookalike sibling puppies that are so beautiful, pre-named Kindle and Kelly. One has been offered a foster home, so perhaps someone would like to take the other.

A pile of Elgin Street puppies

There's also still a pile (literally) of gorgeous, sweet and friendly puppies at 22 Elgin Street, so they're also available for fostering or adoption.
