Mon 13th March: Looking ahead

It's always a mood booster to receive enquiries for the dogs and puppies, and I hope I'll soon be able to write about subsequent adoptions.  At the same time, however, there are an almost equal amount of surrender requests, all of which are very sad because they mean a dog losing its home and family.

Lola

Most people never see the dogs that are given up, I mean their fear and confusion, because it's not something that seems to be considered although it happens in almost every case.  The person who drops the dog off can walk away and never give it a second thought, while our staff and volunteers are left to handle the result.  Bichon Lola, for example, was completely distraught at first, and was quite inconsolable, but thankfully she is settling, especially as she is staying in the office area at Elgin Street along with poodle Nacho and newcomer chihuahua Oreo.  All three were happily mingling today when I visited, which was lovely to see.
Oreo is a sweet young boy

Recent arrivals Kai and Katie, both just a year old,  are also settling well, and the description I had originally been given of them as being very scared turned out not to be accurate.  Both of them are actually very sweet, and Katie greeted me happily today when I went to see them both (see video).

Now that everything is getting back to normal in terms of any restrictions, we're starting to look at this year's events and what/where they will be.  We're planning something special for May to start the ball rolling, so look out for that when we're ready to launch.

Also with parties and other celebrations back on the cards, don't forget that you can use these to make donations via www.twopresents.com, something that used to be a regular happening in previous years.

Leave a Legacy. Make an Impact.

On perhaps a more sombre note but also something that's important to bear in mind for the future, you can draw up a Will free of charge through ForeverGift.hk  if you leave a legacy for charity, and hopefully of course that will be HKDR.

Without trying to sugarcoat the situation, we're really in need of your support and donations as the past few years have been brutal in so many ways.  If you're able to, please donate in any way you can at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/donate/

Thank you.
