Thurs 27th Oct: Sorting out the new arrivals

I shared the photos of the new small dogs on Facebook yesterday, and we have already had a big response with lots of adoption interest.  I do need to mention, however, that these poms and poodles aren't puppies or even particularly young adults, although six years is still quite young for small breeds.  It's also important to bear in mind that breeder dogs are kept in cages and don't live a normal home life, so they will have no idea about toilet training, or anything else come to that.

What I can say is that they are all very sweet, and with the help of our very experienced trainer, Cactus, to answer any questions, the training side of things is easy.  The dogs will be seeing a vet on Friday for a health check and vaccinations, but today the poodles got a much-needed wash and grooming, and a shave in the case of India whose coat was completely matted.

India needed a total shave

In addition to the return of senior poodle lady Bailey, we also took in an even older poodle today.  Bee is fifteen, even if she doesn't look it.   It would be lovely to see Bee and Bailey in homes rather than our small Ap Lei Chau Centre.

The small dogs are easily adopted as long as they don't have behaviour issues, and I fully expect that most of these newbies will have no trouble finding homes either.  It's the larger sized dogs and puppies that have to rely on luck and timing, so for all of those puppies who also arrived from AFCD today, I can only hope that their time comes soon as well.  The older boy at seven months was sent to our Tai Po Homing Centre, and I think he's gorgeous.  Liam is also very friendly and ready to move to a new home any time.

Wishing the new puppies lot of luck

I almost forgot to mention that puppy Skittle was adopted today from our HKDR@Elgin centre, and Sparky and Smithy will be moving to Kennedy Town on Friday.  The timing is perfect for Sparky especially, because he will miss his puppy friend a lot, and having lots of new friends to play with at Kennedy Town will be the best medicine for him.

Sparky loves having a friend

I'm sure you don't need to be reminded that this Sunday is (almost) Halloween and there's lots going on to celebrate.  On both Saturday and Sunday we'll be at Soho East, and of course there's the Puppy Party at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday, with the store as always decorated from floor to ceiling with all manner of Halloween delights.
