There were two lucky dogs today whose adoptions were confirmed, one being Boaty, an ex-Tai Po Homing Centre resident, and the other being Kimmy, an older puppy and survivor of the dreaded distemper virus. Kimmy had been in a foster home since becoming ill and then being hospitalised shortly after her arrival at Ap Lei Chau as one of a litter, and after a few months of recuperation she was ready to move to a forever home. As the smallest of the litter we really didn't think that Kimmy would survive, so this is a particularly happy ending to her story.

I took one of the small Lamma dogs over to Ap Lei Chau today to meet potential adopters, but by the time we arrived at the Homing Centre Rumble was quite nervous and wondering what was happening. Although he relaxed after a while, by then it was too late and he'd missed his chance, but still it was a good opportunity for me to see how sweet and affectionate Rumble can be when he knows you. In fact although I've said in the past that he doesn't like to be cuddled, on the boat ride back to Lamma later in the afternoon he climbed onto my lap and snuggled up to me while I held him in my arms. With so many of these smaller dogs they really just need a little time to build trust, so often initial meetings with potential families don't go too well. In all of these cases we still recommend homes without children because it's hard for kids to understand that not all dogs can tolerate fast movements and grabbing. Rumble is a very active boy who loves going out for walks so he'd suit a couple who also enjoy the outdoor life and hiking. If this sounds like you, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire as a first step. Maybe a meeting on Lamma would also be a good idea next time round.
You will all know about the latest social distancing rules that were announced today, and very sadly that means the Positive Partners training classes have been put on hold, as well as any other planned events, even the small ones. Of course all of our dogs and puppies are still available to meet at both Homing Centres, and in their foster homes. Please keep checking our Facebook page Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) and Instagram @hkdr_official for photos and details of some of the dogs and puppies, or check www.hongkongdogrescue.com/dogs/
Sally, I hate to say it, but Rumble is very happy to stay with you, just like Aladdin, he was happiest being back with you! And come to think of it, Rumble's face is similar to Aladdins!
