Sun 6th Feb: Every dog deserves a chance

Bliss was at today's puppy party

I realise it's not the best time to be recruiting volunteers for our Sunday puppy sessions at Whiskers N Paws, but if you can spare two hours in the afternoon on a regular basis and you would like to become one of the adoption team, please let me know (email info@hongkongdogrescue.com).  You will need to be over 18 years of age and have experience of dogs, although training on the adoption procedure will be given and you won't ever be on your own to make decisions.  Even if you may not be able to make it for every Sunday, we really do need volunteers who can become long-term regulars.  Unfortunately we lost a few of our dedicated volunteers over the past year, so the responsibility has fallen on just one or two regulars, and even then they may not be there every single weekend.  In fact today it was all down to the Whiskers N Paws staff and our wonderful photographer Jimmy Tsang, who's been coming to the Sunday puppy events for many years now Puppy Adoption Day 06th Feb 2022.  One thing we're never short of is puppies, so even though not all of those in foster were able to be at Whiskers N Paws today, there were plenty who turned up.  If you would like to meet any of those shown in the photos please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com to arrange a time and place.

We have been getting quite a few visitors to our Tai Po Homing Centre, but with so many lovely dogs to choose from it's hard to make an instant decision.  I very much hope that I'll be able to share some adoptions with you in the coming week, after the potential families have discussed and made their choices.

Ruby

We still have quite a few small adults at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, and while several of them are still quite shy even after some months of being with us, there are still lovely dogs who should really be in homes by now.  One of them is scruffy terrier-type Ruby, whose coat will suit people with allergies to regular dog hair.   The other one is Teddy, a super-playful and very happy boy, who would definitely need to go to a home where he would get lots of exercise and opportunities to run and play with other dogs.
Teddy is such a happy boy

Even MJ the beagle is still very active at ten years, and he's a really friendly boy who would make a fantastic family member.

In fact there are many smaller-sized dogs waiting to be chosen, and even if they're not instantly your best friend if you give them some time they will soon become just that. Come and meet them any day of the week between 10am and 6pm, but please remember to complete the adoption questionnaire before you visit.  It's at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

By the way, we have been getting a lot of adoption enquiries for small-sized puppies which we don't currently have, and if any do come in there is already a waiting list of adopters to choose from.  In fact some of the applications to adopt don't just request the breed, but also the gender and colour.  Please bear in mind that as a rescue organisation we don't breed puppies to order, and we rarely have young small breeds available.  Adopting a rescue dog means being flexible about not only breed, but looks and age too.  We appreciate that size might be an issue according the the space available in the home, but so many wonderful dogs are overlooked simply because they don't exactly fit what the potential adopters want.  In my eyes, and those of all of us at HKDR, every dog deserves a home and every dog has the potential to be the best in the world. All they need is time, love and patience.
