Weds 3rd Oct: The start of the busy season

Just 10 days to go!
I feel like I'm juggling plates at the moment, but know that's how most of our HKDR staff operate all the time.  The "Sarge'n'Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club" gala event is just over a week away, and while our volunteer Nicole is the main organiser this year, I have also been involved more than usual.  There's always a huge amount of perparation before any big event, and we do everything ourselves rather than pay for a professional events company so we can keep all the money raised to help the dogs.  The majority of tickets have been sold but we can spare  a few and add tables if needed, but please don't wait any longer to book your places as everything needs to be arranged in advance.  Email nicole@hongkongdogrescue.com for details and reservations, or visit our dedicated website page https://hongkongdogrescue.com/event/gala-dinner/

At the same time this year's Peak to Fong on Sunday 25th November is also well underway in terms of organisation, but thankfully we have a team working on everything so my own participation is minimal.  For the most part these are also volunteers, and as I comment every year it's quite amazing how brilliantly our events turn out.

Although in some respects the memory of last month's typhoon is fading I still have a huge amount of re-building to do on Lamma, and on Friday our Tai Po "Mr Fixit" will be coming with a contractor to survey the damage and see what can be done. I'm still coming to terms with the complete change of landscape the greets me every morning when I look out of the window and wonder how a new shelter can be built on land that doesn't even exist any more.

Chow Mein and Jewel are small-sized and super-sweet
The two chow chow girls at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre have become best friends, and play so sweetly together.  I'm not sure why they are still waiting but I'm sure they will find lovely homes before too long.
Turpin is very playful

We also have two other very popular breeds available, with Boston terrier Turpin having had his surgery for a blocked saliva gland, and French bulldog Nibs currently in a foster home until the perfect adopter can be found.  Nibs needs a home where he is the only dog because he's not good at sharing, but he's lovely with humans.
Nibs is just a year old

If you are interested in any of our dogs please complete the adoption questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt) as a first step, with as much information as you can give about your home and situation.
