Fri 5th Oct: Don't forget to shop at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre

The days are full of activity of one kind or another, and while everyone is working incredibly hard to arrange many different things there hasn't been much going on on the adoption front.  Sunday is Puppy Afternoon at Whiskers N Paws, including a couple of not-really-puppies in French bulldog Nibs and Alaskan malamute Zara, so if nothing else the puppies will have three hours of play in weather that's perfect for everyone.

Zara on her first Whiskers N Paws Sunday
One of our Sunday volunteers, Becky, is fostering Zara at the moment and they have been coming to Whiskers N Paws for the past few weeks.  At first I was concerned that Zara wouldn't be able to mix safely with the puppies, not to mention the human youngsters, but she's incredibly gentle with all.
Nibs is just a year old

Nibs' foster parents will be bringing him along and he might need some "Time Out" periods if things get too exciting, but it's a good opportunity to show off this lovely little Frenchie.  He does need a home where he will be the only dog though, as sharing isn't his strong point.
There's not much left of the fencing

I had to get the Lamma dogs out and walked early today as our "Mr. Fixit" was coming to survey the typhoon damage and to see what needed to be done, as well as the inevitably high cost of building new fencing.  This is the second year in a row that the sea-facing fencing has fallen after a typhoon, although this time the solid stone walls went too, and I'm wondering if this is going to be an annual event.  All seafront properties are now clearly vulnerable to flooding, or worse, based on the past two T10 typhoons and what seems to be increasingly severe weather, and re-building every time is obviously just not a feasible option.  I have been wondering about moving some of the Lamma dogs to Tai Po,  but every time I'm on the verge of acting then AFCD fills up with dogs needing to be saved. Something has to change though.

Just in time for Halloween!
One of the more enjoyable tasks of the day was unpacking boxes of donated toys, dog beds and bowls, deciding what would go where.  Among the various items were some Halloween toys, perfect for immediate display and selling.  We always have a full supply of everything your dog could need or want at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, and remember that every purchase helps us to take care of the dogs under our care.
