Weds 7th Dec: Being a full time mother

Snooze after breakfast
As a full time mother with five hungry baby mouths to feed I haven't had much time to do anything else, but at least there is a certain satisfaction in watching the milk disappear from the bottle as the pups suck enthusiastically.  I can even distinguish one from another now, and that makes it a loss less confusing at meal times than with the previous lookalike litter.

In contrast to this healthy and hardy bunch of puppies, it's really not looking good for the Maltese baby.  She went to see Dr Tony today and will have an MRI on Thursday, but the likelihood is that she has an incurable condition which has already caused brain damage.  In fact although the eyes themselves are fine, the part of the brain that deals with sight isn't working so she is to all intents and purposes blind.  With a very poor prognosis nothing less than a miracle will be able to help, but we'll wait to see what the MRI results show before making that decision.

Christmas is speeding towards us and I haven't quite come to terms with the approaching end of year, but hopefully we will see a few more adoptions before then.  I still have a good number of lovely puppies that are in need of homes, and with the two litters of eight and five babies who will be ready to go by January there's no shortage of candidates if you are thinking about a new family member either before or after the holidays.

Goofy aka Toby is such a calm character
There are also two older Stanley Barracks doglets in foster who have to move out very soon, and we need to get them into new homes.  One of these is Goofy, also known as Toby by his temporary family, and he is a totally laid-back character who isn't an athletic type and prefers to chill rather than go for long walks.  In fact his chunky build isn't suited to anyone wanting a running companion and he would be perfect for a home with children who were looking for a cuddly friend.  Goofy/Toby would be a great Nanny Dog if given the chance.

Echo is also very sweet and more energetic
In contrast his sister Echo loves her long walks, and out of the litter she is the only one who looked different.  She doesn't have the whiskers that her siblings have, or the over-sized head, but she is very sweet and loving too.

Contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com if you would like to meet either of these two lovely doglets, or come to Whiskers N Paws on Sunday, 2pm to 5pm.
