Thur 8th Dec: Just say no to pet shops

Goodbye babies
It's funny how attached you can become to foster puppies in such a short time, and as much as I was happy to send my five babies off to a new temporary home I was already concerned about them even as I was packing them up for the boat trip to Ap Lei Chau.  I had prepared a bottle of milk for the journey although they had only just been fed, because as soon as baby pups sense (still having their ears and eyes closed) a "mother" around they expect food.  All five have gone to the same home so I hope they don't prove to be too much to cope with as they get a bit older and louder.  I have lived with noise and mayhem for so long I forget that it's not normal.

The Maltese puppy was taken to Sham Shui Po to have an MRI on her brain to see if anything could be done, but unfortunately - although not too surprisingly - her weak body couldn't cope with the general anaesthetic and her heart stopped halfway through.  She was revived but the MRI couldn't be completed, and there is really nothing more we can do except see if anything can be found on the images that were taken before she "died".   She has gone to a "hospice" home in the meantime, but the truth is that there is no hope of a long life for this poor little mite.  I would like to know which pet shop sold an obviously too-young and sick puppy like this, but know that any hope of changes or charges are pointless as long as there are customers who keep buying.  If anything good comes out of this very sad story I hope it will be that it will make at least one potential pet shop customer think again about buying that cute bundle of fluff in the window.

Yoda-now-Tate and Kira
It's at least reassuring to know that more and more people are turning to adoption rather than supporting the disgusting pet trade,  and we can't get enough of the happy updates like this lovely photo of just-adopted Yoda and ex-HKDR Kira from many years ago.  There's nothing better than hearing the magic words "best dog in the world" spoken about any adopted dog, but especially the mixed breeds. Keep the updates coming please!
