Meet this lovely little girl at WNP
In case you are thinking about adopting a puppy after the event, or choosing to go to Whiskers N Paws instead, we will be there as usual from 2pm to 5pm with our large collection of puppies, hopefully reduced somewhat after this Sunday afternoon when we will be overrun with beautiful babies.  It's quite an anxious time for me, knowing that we have so many little ones and also the older Stanley Barracks five, and wondering if we will manage to get them all into homes.  At least the weather is perfect for the youngsters to enjoy a run-around and big playtime.
There's a whole litter of these fluffy babies

Alice was the trainer at our Puppy Workshop today
Talking of which: Our Puppy Training Workshop took place today. The number of students was kept to a minimum to ensure sufficient attention could be provided to each puppy, as their first play experience and impression of other dogs is so important.
As well as the eight under-5-month-old puppies and their parents who attended the workshop, many other puppy owners joined us as observers so they too could watch and learn. The puppies were allowed to play under our dog trainers' supervision to make sure their interactions were happy.
Dog Trainer Alice shared tips on how to supervise dog play, help puppies to socialise and learn, and how to modify some common puppy problems.

I'm so used to hearing about puppy behaviour "problems" because actually it's very normal for puppies to bite, chew and have mad moments when they hurtle round at top speed for no apparent reason. There is really nothing to worry about, and even if you think you have adopted a monster you will find that everything sorts itself out in the end as long as you know how to handle and train your crazy pup.  Allowing him or her to play rough with another puppy is hugely beneficial because that's how they learn that biting hurts, and apart from anything else it's a great way use up the energy that never seems to end. Many puppy owners break up "fights" because they don't understand that it's a necessary part of the learning process, and it's very rare that either side gets hurt.

Angel has been with us since our Pokfulam days

The day never really ends when you are working with dogs, or any living animal, and this evening I received a message from May about a Tai Po dog called Angel who had been rushed to a nearby vet clinic with bloat, also know as GDV or gastric torsion. Thankfully our team know enough to recognise the symptoms and to understand that this is an emergency situation that requires immediate surgery, so by the time I read the messages Angel was already on the operating table and opened up. Thanks to having got her straight to a vet, we hope that everything will be OK and Angel will recover fully.
