Tues 5th May: Another lucky senior is chosen

Dina's (left) face has white on it now, but she was chosen today
Today's lucky Tai Po dog was Dina, another lovely senior who started off as one of my Lamma puppies.  I loved her back then as she was such a sweet girl, but after moving to the big Homing Centre she was overlooked as being just one of many lovely dogs amongst hundreds of others.  The wait was too long but finally her big day arrived and now she has her own forever family. Thank you to Dina's adopters, and to everyone else who has opened their hearts and homes to one of our beautiful older girls and boys.
This is the day "steady" Eddie arrived and he's settled in so well

Brush had been staying at the Shatin AFCD kennels

We'll be taking in some new arrivals on Thursday including two four month-old puppies, a white poodle (who from the photos looks to be quite large) and another two of the cruelty case dogs from last year.  All survivors from this terrible case were divided amongst the four AFCD Animal Management Centres and SPCA, and as we had already taken all of these dogs that were at the Pokfulam Centre and have been successful in re-homing some, now Shatin and Sheung Shui AFCD are sending their quotas to us.   Sweet Brush with the tuft of hair under his eye is one, and "steady" Eddie another.  I'm sure the two coming on Thursday will also be lovely dogs.
Recently arrived from AFCD, Coco was pregnant

Other recent arrivals from AFCD were sent for desexing today, and I got a call from Dr Cheryl at Concordia Pet Care letting me know that one of the females, Coco, had been pregnant.  In a way I'd rather not know, but at least Coco has been spared the inevitable fate of so many dogs whose lives become a matter of producing litter after litter.   Females comes into season twice a year and can mate and conceive the day after giving birth.  It's a terrible life, and one that's endured by thousands of breeder dogs the world over, their whole purpose being to produce puppies that can be sold for profit.

We have been receiving surrender enquiries from those people who rushed out to buy puppies during the working-from-home period, and they may or may not end up actually appearing.  Often the surrender request is as impulsive as the initial purchase, but I'm expecting more over the coming months.  We already have a long waiting list of potential adopters for such puppies, some of whom I fully expect have already either bought or adopted from another organisation, but if you can wait then you might get lucky.
