Weds 11th March: Everything running as usual

My Wednesdays at home mean extra time for the Lamma dogs and always include special snuggles for Murphy, now fully eighteen years old but still boss of the house (and me).  Taking care of seniors is something we have to deal with as dog people, and with so many old dogs at our Tai Po Homing Centre and with me on Lamma, that includes managing their end-of-life days when creaky joints and age-related eyesight problems are common.  I have several blind dogs now, not that they let it bother them, including Murphy of course who has no eyes at all.  Physical ailments are a challenge, especially for larger dogs who need help with standing and walking, but there are things that can help both in terms of equipment and physiotherapy, including hydrotherapy.   Supplements can also help with both physical and mental deterioration, and although it's difficult to judge just how much difference they make I give them anyway (and take them myself too).

Robin is a lovely dog who really deserves a loving family
I'll be back at AFCD on Thursday to take out two more dogs that were survivors of the shocking cruelty case last year.  I thought that was over in terms of the remaining dogs needing help as there weren't any left at Pokfulam AFCD, but then several appeared that had been sent over from Shatin Animal Management Centre so it starts all over again.  Those that we have had with us at Tai Po are all doing really well, and although only one has so far been lucky enough to have found a home and family, compared to their previous experiences all of the dogs are living the dream.
Tawny was a very sad dog when she came to us, now she's amazing

Despite everything that's not normal these days we're still planning ahead and have some small events in the pipeline.   Our Sunday puppy afternoons at Whiskers N Paws are taking place as usual, as are the Positive Partners training courses which are also held in the dedicated training room at Whiskers N Paws on Sundays, in both Cantonese and English.  Of course both of our Homing Centres have remained opened every day from 10am to 6pm without a break, so come long any time to meet the dogs.
