Fri 13th March: Getting out into the hills

I received an email from AFCD Shatin about some available dogs and puppies around midday, and although our driver Ming was free to go and pick them up in the afternoon their paperwork hadn't been prepared so it will have to be Monday.  Once I know there are any dogs or puppies waiting I want to get them as soon as possible, so weekends are frustrating as the AFCD office staff aren't working.

The Homing Centre is already up in the hills and away from any crowds
This current period feels a bit like treading water, when things are happening but not at the pace we're used to, and although the Homing Centres are open every day as usual the number of volunteers coming to help out and walk the dogs has dropped quite dramatically.  With so many Hongkongers heading out to the hills these days, why not take a dog with you to enjoy the fresh air and countryside?  You do have to be a registered volunteer to apply, but our Tai Po dogs love to go out for a proper long hike so please think about this if you have the time.  The Homing Centre is right on the Wilson Trail leading straight out into open countryside so it's easy to get away and enjoy open spaces.

Sunday means Whiskers N Paws, and hopefully no rain this time so the puppies can enjoy their games on the terrace.  One lucky puppy girl won't need to be there as she's going home on Saturday from Ap Lei Chau so I can share the name and photo tomorrow, but there are still lots to choose from like sisters Tanya and Lola (and yes I know, they don't look anything like each other).

Wilf will also be there, and he's a very special boy to both myself and his foster parent.  Wilf was the only one in his litter who had clear sharpei in him, and as well as looks he shares the sharpei characteristic of loyalty to his family.  Although not a bad thing at all it means he's not immediately open to being cuddled by strangers, but give him a little time and he's fine.  He's growing into a gorgeous boy with big and very un-sharpei-like ears, and if you're looking for a dog that will be both a wonderful and affectionate family member as well as a protector, think about Wilf.  His foster parent is a teacher so has the time to look after Wilf until schools go back, but we would really love to see this great puppy in a forever home.
