Thurs 7th Feb: Being in the right place at the right time

We had really hoped that Teddy and Eddie had escaped infection, but sadly not
We were so happy to pick up three puppies from hospital today following their treatment for parvovirus, and they were also thrilled to be out of their cages and immediately started playing.  However the last two puppies who had been together in that group, although not from the same litters, have also come down with the same symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea so they will take the hospital places vacated by the lucky ones.

The only good thing I can say about this virus is that there are no long-term effects and once they have recovered the puppies are totally fine and with immunity to further infection, from parvovirus anyway although not the other infectious diseases.
What a great day for a wonderful hike for the Tai Po dogs

Timmie out hiking today, but why is he still waiting for a home?
Seeing the photos of today's hikes with the Tai Po dogs also reminded me of the number of beautiful and very sweet long-termers we have. I don't know why Timmie, for example, has never been chosen for adoption.  It's just bad luck really, and perhaps not being in the right place at the right time.  Admittedly we could say of some dogs that they're a bit shy with people they don't know, or they're not keen on other dogs or whatever, but there are so many who have no behaviour or personality problems at all.  I want them all to have that chance of being part of a family and it makes me sad to know that in all probability some will die without ever knowing what it is like to experience that.
Perry had to have his leg amputated at a very young age

It really is just a matter of luck and timing for the dogs and puppies, clearly demonstrated by the adoption of two slightly imperfect but very lucky ones.  Three-legged puppy Perry had his adoption confirmed by his foster family after the resident dog finally agreed, and today senior and blind poodle Stevie moved from his foster home to his forever family.

It seems strange that the weekend is almost here again, and that means Whiskers N Paws for the older (and healthy) puppies (here's the reminder)
Puppy Adoption Day 3 February 2019.
I mustn't forget to mention that there are also many puppies staying at our Tai Po Homing Centre too, so if you want to meet them you can visit any day of the week, as well as those currently at our Ap Lei Chau Centre.

  1. Though we feel sadness in our hearts for the doggies that do not find their forever home, in reality, it does not make any difference to them as in their hearts and minds, HKDR is home sweet home no matter what and by all the smiling doggie faces we see, they are happy.
