Sun 3rd Feb: Asking for Lai See for our puppies PLEASE

Diesel is already Rex
Coincidentally the two puppies that were adopted at Whiskers N Paws today were not only from the same litter, new from AFCD on Thursday, but they also looked almost identical.  Diesel, now Rex, was the first to go, followed by his sister Ella, and then the other two sisters, Smartie and Lola, were taken for fostering at the end of the afternoon.  They should all have been called Lucky!
Scary monster Zara
Diesel's sister Ella was also adopted today

Jimmy Tsang was the volunteer photographer today, and as always he produced a great album with some classic shots, including two group photos of the puppies  Puppy Adoption Day 3 February 2019.  One was when malamute Zara made a brief appearance and was mobbed by the crowd, and the other when an empty bottle appeared and immediately became toy of the moment, and this was despite there being a load of new toys having been donated just earlier.
German shepherd Aiden left Tai Po today

German shepherd Aiden was also a lucky dog today as he was adopted from our Tai Po Homing Centre, and thank you to his new family for giving him a second chance.  We are always grateful, and incredibly especially happy to wave goodbye to the older dogs.

All of these babies came down with parvovirus at exactly the same time
Despite the sunny weather and the happy adoptions, a black cloud hung over Ap Lei Chau today as all of the puppies we have been keeping quarantined upstairs at the Homing Centre came down with vomiting and diarrhoea, the classic signs of parvovirus.  Ironically the two puppies that had been the first to develop symptoms and had given us the warning about the virus risk, have both recovered after their stay in hospital and have gone back to their foster home, but baby Bertha had to be sent to Acorn as an emergency case in the morning and all others will follow, some to Acorn and others to Concordia in Happy Valley.

This mass infection couldn't have come at a worse time, and to have all eleven baby puppies from three separate litters needing hospitalisation at Chinese New Year is going to be seriously expensive.  Under normal circumstances it would be understandable and common practice to have all virus-infected puppies euthanised to prevent further infection, but with every puppy already falling sick at the same time, it's too late for preventative measures.  We were so optimistic that the three litters had escaped and would be fine, so it was a terrible discovery this morning for Iris.

We are now asking for your help, more directly Lai See to go towards what is going to be an incredibly costly Chinese New Year for us.  We will do everything we can to help the puppies recover, just like the first two did, which means expensive supportive care and the best that the vets can offer.  Parvovirus can't be treated as such, but immune system boosts as well as IV fluids can help.     If you can donate towards the cost of the puppies' hospital stay please email Dana at vetfund@hongkongdogrescue.com, and thank you in advance.
