Two of the new candidates at Concordia Pet Care |
A large group of puppies left the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre for the afternoon to try their luck at Concordia Pet Care in Happy Valley
Puppy Adoption Day 2 February 2019, and while none of them were actually taken home today we're pretty sure that their potential adopters will be back, possibly on Sunday at Whiskers N Paws. Thanks to Kevin Chan for the lovely photos, and there will be more puppies at the Sunday event and even more photos to look through afterwards.

Santa's adoption is doubly special |
One puppy, actually two, didn't have to make the short trip to Happy Valley, and that was Santa plus her sister Frostie. Santa has been adopted while Frostie tagged along on a foster basis and will hopefully also have her own forever home before too long. We call these two sisters The Survivors, because they were the only two from a litter of very young babies who made it through. I still get upset thinking about the others, such beautiful tiny pups, but such is life. It was thanks to their foster home that Santa and Frostie are alive today and I can't help but wonder if the others would also be at the age for adoption now if they had gone straight to homes. That is just one reason why foster homes are so important, and we are always in need of temporary homes for puppies. If you want to find out more about our fostering programme please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com, thanks.

Waffle and Penny (who was Rumba) |
Pug Waffle was also taken on Friday, a trial at first to see how ex-HKDR golden retriever Rumba-now-Penny accepted her, and so far everything is going very well. We have had a few more enquiries about the pugs so I hope that by the end of the Chinese New Year holiday we will have sold out, or at least be down to the last one. These pugs have had such a terrible life so far and it's quite incredible seeing how they have bounced back, both in health and their temperament. They are such sweet and funny dogs, very playful and happy.
You may have seen that forty three lucky dogs and puppies found their forever homes during January of this year, and I want to thank everyone who chose to adopt and not buy. We're always hoping for a better-than-before adoption number but we never force anyone to take dogs, nor have any sort of target we have to reach. If we're not happy with the potential home then we would rather hold onto the dog or puppy for the next time, because the animals have no say in the matter and we try our very best to make sure it's a good match. Every failed adoption is our failure too and it weighs heavily on us, but we will never give up trying.
