Mon 18th Sept: Big and beautiful

Usko is gentle with everyone

I was seriously excited about the prospect of big and gentle doglet Usko being adopted after some WhatsApp conversations on Sunday, but sadly the potential adopter decided the time wasn't right after all. She'd met Usko at Whiskers N Paws and loved him, so when she asked me about recommendations for a large but calm and gentle big dog and I immediately said Usko, it seemed like fate that she had already been thinking about him.   In fact everyone loves Usko, from the Whiskers N Paws staff to all of the smaller puppies that have stayed with him at the store, so I know that one day he'll find that special family who will take him home.  He's great with young children too.

Unity is a beautiful girl

Usko's sister is Unity, and she is very beautiful, equally sweet natured, but not as big as her brother.  Unity has been staying in a foster home since she was a young puppy, so she's familiar with life in a family home.

Richie is a very sweet dog

Richie was adopted as a young puppy and later returned when he grew too big, and now at two years of age he's still with us at Tai Po.  These cases are really heartbreaking, and so unfair.  Richie is also a lovely boy, very good natured, and he loved his short stay in a home as a Typhoon Foster dog.

We have other large-sized doglets at our Tai Po Homing Centre, all of whom came to us as young puppies or even newborns.  There's a very common misconception that large dogs need much more exercise than small ones, but in many cases the reverse is true.  The little dogs zip around at high speed while the bigger ones are happy to stroll at a much slower pace.  The only indisputable fact is that the large dogs take up more space, so small homes aren't really suitable.
