Thurs 12th Jan: Back again

The four new puppies

After spending the entire day yesterday setting up a new computer I can get back to my normal duties, which include writing this blog.  As it happened there wasn't too much to talk about on Wednesday as it was very quiet, but today we picked up a mother dog with her four puppies from AFCD.  The pups, who had been born at the AFCD Animal Management Centre, are a month old, so we decided to separate them and send them to foster homes (in pairs of course), while the mother is now at our Tai Po Homing Centre. She's an incredibly sweet dog, now called Sugar, and while initially she will fret about losing her young, the reality of the situation is that it's not possible to keep the family together.  All we can hope for is that Sugar will soon be in a new home, desexed, and without ever having to give birth to more unwanted puppies.  You can already start following the daily lives of Pepper and Paulie on Instagram @why_i_foster, and of course they're available for adoption at any time as long as they can stay together until they're at least two months old.

The "chihuahua" (much more like a pomeranian) puppy who was surrendered to our HKDR@Elgin Centre on Tuesday is having the time of his life with his new friends, especially Stella.  As you may recall, Stella was another mother-with-pups when she came to us, and while all of the puppies have since been adopted, Stella is still waiting for her own family.   Sparky and Stella seem to have found the perfect playmate in each other, and this video of them wrestling is really so sweet.  Is it too much to ask that they go to a home as a couple?  Stella is still a young dog, and really very small as you can see from the video, bearing in mind that Sparky is a tiny ball of fluff.

It baffles me when people say they can't handle two dogs, especially when they're so small, because having a pair takes a lot of pressure off the humans when it comes to having to keep a single dog entertained, not to mention exercised.   Apart from that, just watching dogs having such a fantastic time playing together is good for the soul.  You can't help but smile when seeing them so happy, and then when the games are over and it's time to rest, having a snuggle buddy is what almost every dog wants.

With the weekend just around the corner again, it's time to update the long list of puppies available, not including the very young ones that are still not old enough to be adopted singly.  Please remember to complete the adoption questionnaire as a first step: www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
