Mon 2nd Jan: Looking forward to normal

Stella's pup Sugar was adopted today

Under normal circumstances, the small-medium dogs staying at our Elgin Street location would have been pretty much in and out, but with so many people out of Hong Kong for the holidays, or just busy with other things, the dogs have stayed for longer than usual.  Millie was chosen today and will be leaving soon, and maybe puppy Sugar's tiny mother Stella will also be joining a new family before too long.
Hector, Harlow and Honor are off this list

I'm already confused about what day it is thanks to Monday being a holiday, so I was concerned about how I would be able to get Finn back to Lamma after he had to stay the night at Concordia Pet Care following surgery to repair the horrible eyelid injury.  Wednesdays are our driver Ming's regular day off (as well as Saturday), but of course I later realised I was a day ahead of myself.  As it happens I'd just taken a short video of Finn the day before he hurt his eye, and I have to keep reminding myself to take more photos and videos of the dogs before it's too late.   So many of my Lamma dogs are well into their senior years now, although Finn is still relatively young (he's the black-and-white dog).

Apollo with GDV

Tai Po dog Apollo's condition is stable after his emergency surgery for a twisted stomach, so he too should be fine to leave hospital.  A regular commenter asked if this condition had anything to do with a dog being deep-chested, and yes it does, but age is also a factor as seniors are more likely to suffer from GDV.  The most important thing for any dog who is suspected of having bloat is to get them to a vet without delay, otherwise a painful death is inevitable.

Symptoms of GDV
  • Bloat (a swollen tummy)
  • Retching (trying to vomit without bringing anything up)
  • Vomiting.
  • Excessive drooling.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Pale gums.
  • Collapse.

Adoption enquiries for the small-medium dogs that are staying at our HKDR@Elgin location in Soho are coming in now, thanks to the social media posts and the end of the holiday period.  Millie was chosen today, and I know others will be following very soon. Usually these types of dogs would be pretty much in-and-out, but the volunteers that have been helping at Elgin Street have been doubly appreciated this time round.
