Thurs 11th Aug: Nature can be cruel, but kindness also exists

Lucky or unlucky? Holly has a lovely home

We all know that life is unfair and nature can be very cruel, but sometimes things happen that make everything right again, at least for a while.  Puppy Holly came to us having been born blind, and I wondered if we would be able to find anyone willing to take her with this handicap.  In fact she was offered not just one, but two lovely homes, so it was another case of first come, first served, as Holly left to start her new and wonderful life (with thanks to the other family who also wanted to adopt her).
Hudson has to have cage rest for now

The other puppy that came with an inborn "mistake" is Hudson, and as I mentioned in a previous post he's had surgery on his knees to try to correct what was wrong, and he'll probably need further hip surgery when he's older.  Still, I thought it was worth sharing his photo because maybe he'll also be offered several homes too (and he's so lovely, who could resist?)

More puppies whose early bad luck turned around and became their fortune were the "T" litter, all really gorgeous girls who unfortunately turned out to be infected with a very serious case of URTI (Upper Respiratory Tract Infection) which quickly turned into pneumonia.  We had to send the puppies to different vet clinics for hospitalisation, two to each, and thankfully after some time all were well enough to be released to foster care.  When I say these are exceptionally sweet and adorable puppies, you'll know it's true when I tell you that it was the vets at two of the clinics who fell for the charms of Tilly and Tia.

New puppy girl from AFCD

While I was out and about in the van today, I got a message from AFCD Pokfulam about a puppy they had there, so while I was busy elsewhere our driver Ming went to pick her up. Now I need a name for her, as well as the other two "rain babies" who went to their foster home today (and all are black).
One girl, one boy

With the move from Ap Lei Chau to Kennedy Town now complete, I wanted to share the full addresses of our new (and existing) premises.  Please make a note that our Homing Centres are open every single day from 10am to 6pm, while the office and HKDR@Elgin may not be open at weekends.

Who will take sweet Beemer home?

The "Red Dog Centre" at 21 Ap Lei Chau Main Street hasn't been included because we don't know for how long we can remain there, as the whole of Ap Lei Chau is being pulled down and redeveloped.  We still keep some dogs there, including the very sweet Beemer, another dog who was born with what we might see as a handicap but which Beemer just accepts as the way he is.  He doesn't even notice that he only has two-and-a-half legs, as he enjoys his playtimes at the Centre and the nearby dog park as much as any other dog.  Who will be the lucky adopter of this sweet and affectionate boy?

I'm also sharing the donation information in case you would like to support our work in saving and caring for the hundreds of dogs and puppies that are with us at any given time.
