I think this is Jude, another smaller puppy who won't grow to be big |
It was long-term regular Eric Tang's turn at Whiskers N Paws today, and there are so many lovely puppies to choose from if you're looking to add to your family Puppy Adoption Day 14th August 2022. When I go through the photos there's a part of me that wonders who I would choose, but every puppy has his or her own certain charm, and I know that the foster parents of those who are lucky enough to have temporary homes to stay in would say their puppy is the best. For today though, I would have to nominate Indie, a floppy-eared and totally beautiful girl who will only grow to be medium sized as an adult. Take a look at the video and you'll see what I mean.
Fonzi is just a baby |
Over at Kennedy Town there has been a lot of interest in the three ex-breeder shibas, especially Fonzi as he's still a young puppy. However there's always a reason why breeders discard their money-making dogs, and for the females it's when they stop being able to produce puppies, or they are infected with something that is being passed on to their litters, usually skin-related. Nobody wants to buy a puppy that looks as though the moths have been busy eating its coat. With Fonzi the puppy, he has a deformed back paw which we were initially told was a missing toe. That would have been nothing really, but Fonzi can't really put weight on that leg so I think a shoe will help if nothing else can be done.
Gaby is now Bella and adopted |
The smaller dogs arrive in groups, almost always as a surprise, and when they are adopted one by one (or by two if they're lucky), we wait until the next intake. I know that a lot of readers come here to see if there are any new dogs on the way, and for now there's nothing on the horizon. However we do have the other four ex-breeder dogs that came via AFCD, and although the two poodles and two schnauzers have heartworm, that's something that can be treated and totally cured. The surgical part is over and done with, and schnauzer Ginny is recovering well, as is poodle Grace. The before and after photos of these types of dogs that have come and gone over the past almost-twenty years are proof that ugly ducklings can indeed turn into beautiful swans.
We also have terrier-type Scribble, a sad case of a dog that first came to us as a one year-old, was adopted and then dumped at AFCD when her family left Hong Kong. She was adopted again but later returned, so now we're hoping to make it third time lucky. Scribble isn't happy at the Homing Centre and her tolerance for the puppies is low. I think we all want to see Scribble in a forever home soon, because the constant pressure of living with a lot of rowdy youngsters is affecting her behaviour. For this reason we can't let her go to a home where there are children, and she would prefer to be the only dog in the family.
Henry is a very sweet and young boy, and I'm not sure why he's still with us. I can only assume it's his wonky smile that has put potential adopters off, but personally I think it adds to his unique charm.
Tessa when she first arrived (with beagle MJ, adopted) |
Another little dog with a wonky smile is Tessa, and she recently moved to the Lamma Home for Small dogs. She's a very sweet girl, but timid, and like many such dogs who aren't too confident, she likes to be around other dogs. It's taken a week for Tessa to start to enjoy the garden and the freedom of the Lamma house, but now she's a very happy girl.
The two comedians |
The arrival of the two pug puppies at the Lamma house on Saturday probably had a lot to with with Tessa's new smile because Snoopy and Snuffle are the happiest, funniest and sweetest boys. If you're interested in adopting these two comedians, or any of our other lovely dogs and puppies, please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
