Mon 12th Nov: Less than two weeks to go!

Room with a view
While waiting for confirmation that a pair of poodles will be released for re-homing from AFCD Pokfulam (which will be on Tuesday), I decided to stay on Lamma today to finally finish the repair/re-building work following September's Typhoon Mangkhut which destroyed so much.  Today's work was the fencing on the roof, which until now has been very much a patch-up job, and I was very happy to introduce the upstairs dogs to their new and expanded play area.  It makes a nice change to be outdoors and doing manual work, and satisfying to see the results.

Now that all the renovation work is completed, even though there are still a few wandering dogs to catch and put back into their new enclosure, I have another problem to deal with which is much more difficult.  As you may know, we always recommend that if you are going to have more than one dog you choose a male and female, or at least two males.  A pair of females can be best friends, and in fact they tend to be far more bonded than males, but if they fall out then it's serious and there's nothing you can do to repair the relationship.  I have two such females, and the fights are escalating to the extent that I will have to move one dog out, but which one?  Neither are young at around six years, and they both consider their space to be their rightful home, but I can't allow the situation to continue.

This female-female problem can also apply to mother and daughter couples and may not appear for several years, but again once it starts then it's pretty much impossible to rectify.  It happens out of the blue and for no apparent reason, when one dog will suddenly fly at the other and seriously attack.

Best friends as puppies, sisters can fall out badly when adults
For the same reason it's also recommended that if you are adopting two puppies you don't choose from the same litter, as sibling rivalry can also be a problem once the dogs are mature adults.  It certainly doesn't apply in every case and brothers or sisters can remain close friends for life, but once the fights start they are deadly serious and more so in the case of females.

This year, we are happy to have Brabanconne as our event Title Sponsor, and with well-known Fashion Illustrator Mickco designing this beautiful set of event T-shirts.
The programme for the day starts with the Sponsored Walk down from The Peak, and continues with fun and games at Lan Kwai Fong, including a variety of live entertainment, merchandise stalls, food and drink.
