Thurs 9th Aug: Looking good for a great Gala Event

The artwork for this year's Gala is a masterpiece in itself
Starting from the end of the day for a change, and working backwards, we had an evening meeting to discuss this year's "Sarge'n'Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club" gala evening (after which I had trouble getting back to Lamma thanks to the T1 signal, but that's another story).  I really wanted to make this event something fun, different and (of course) successful in terms of raising the all-important funds, and I'm so excited about the way things are shaping up that I've already got my outfit sorted.   It's always a bit of a shock to realise that a lot of our volunteers and supporters weren't even born when The Beatles were around, but I think most people have heard of them and may even know and appreciate their music.

The theme of this year's Gala is all about the Lonely Hearts Club, which of course are our long termers, and although our Gala events are officially Black Tie we encourage dressing up to add to the mood and fun factor.  We've had some great costumes over the years, and this year's theme is going to give guests a great opportunity to dig into the past and the "good old days".

Although the framework of the event is already in place, including a live band for dancing, we are still looking for more auction prizes if you have any goods for service to offer.  If you own or manage a spa or salon for example, or a bar/restaurant, and would be able to donate a beauty or massage session, or a meal voucher, please contact this year's volunteer event organiser Nicole at nicole@hongkongdogrescue.com.  Of course all of our donors and sponsors will get an acknowledgement  in the programme, as well as a mention in my blog and the dedicated Gala website page.   Tickets are already available and you can also contact Nicole about buying individual seats or tables.

The Maltese puppy is blind
Now going back to the dogs, the new ex-breeder puppies were at Acorn today for assessment by Dr Andy, and it seems the Maltese puppy is blind, while the poodle has either a neurological problem or some brain damage as he can't walk properly.  At Dr Andy's suggestion we'll start with a wait-and-see approach in the hope that even if the pups don't get better, which is unlikely, they don't get any worse.   Assuming they are doing all right after a few weeks we can start looking at MRI scans and things like that, but for the moment it's just good food and cuddles.
