Fri 17th Aug: Never say never

The pom baby is happily playing now
Starting with news about the little pom puppy whose leg had to be removed, he is making a quick recovery and is happy and playing, and even better he'll be leaving hospital to go to his new home on Saturday.  It's possible the remaining knee may need surgery at a later stage but for now he's fine and should soon be running around like any other puppy.  Thanks to everyone for your concern and for the many offers of help and a home.

Skittle was the lucky poodle today
Another one of the new "show" poodles, Skittle,  went home today, and I suspect all six of them won't have to wait long, even though one has heartworm.  This is a temporary condition which can be treated, and from the many happy before-and-after stories we've shared on our Facebook page, you can see what a real difference a home makes.
Rudolph-now-Mocha is seriously cute!

I particularly like the update on poodle Rudolph, now Mocha, because he came to us totally bald except for his head and feet.  I remember he was wearing a coat and what a shock it was to see what was - or wasn't - underneath, but seeing him now makes me smile.  He was adorable even back then but now he's just beautiful.  So many of our dogs have changed almost beyond recognition after being adopted, both physically and in their behaviour, particularly the ex-breeder dogs that have never known what it is like to be loved.
What Rudolph looked like before

I took four new puppies from AFCD today and they are all very happy, friendly and waggy-tailed but once again they have low red cell counts indicating tick fever.  It's incredibly frustrating, and sad for the pups as they can't go to Whiskers N Paws to be seen, even if they are always available to meet at our own Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre.
Harper is at the front with brother Wallace behind

In fact one of the two puppies we took in from Sheung Shui AFCD on Thursday, a sweet girl called Harper, was taken home for a trial adoption today even though we were very open about the fact that she had tick fever so you can really never say never.
