Weds 4th May: A day at the studio

Banjo is such a professional
A few of our dogs went on a special mission today, and thank you to  Lifestyle Asia for choosing to feature rescue dogs in your fashion pages.  Our own models were Flanders, Becky, Banjo, Jill and little Chocolate, and all of them are waiting for homes. Take a look at our Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) Facebook page for some great photos, and to see how patient and well behaved everyone was.

I'm glad in a way that I don't have to choose a favourite to adopt because I would be so torn that I know I'd end up with a few. Banjo is just the best, so handsome and yet so modest, sweet, calm and affectionate.  Jill is quite small, beautiful, charming and very sociable, and both are still puppies.
Our own human volunteers were (from left) Eva, Wing and Andrea

How cool is Flanders?
Flanders has always been a lovely boy since the day he first came to us from AFCD, while Becky took time to gain confidence.  Now she is a very happy girl, even to the point of loving her day at the studio.  Chocolate is also very sweet, and I know he would have found a home by now if he had been able to see.  Being blind makes no difference to him but it does affect a dog's chance of being chosen.
Lyra chose adoption over modelling

Young husky girl Lyra had been scheduled to join the shoot but had to cancel at the last minute because she was on her way to her new home. As much as I'm sure she would have made a wonderful model, of the two choices there was really no contest.

With the mid-week turn I have my mind focused on next Sunday afternoon and all of the new babies that will be there, along with the older pups including Banjo and Jill. With each batch of new youngsters the older ones get pushed further to one side, as would-be adopters naturally gravitate towards the cute little ones even though there is really no more than a matter of weeks between them.  I can't say it enough and I'll keep repeating the same words, that older puppies are far more suitable and a much better choice for families with young children.  By six or seven months you know what you're getting in terms of potential size and certainly temperament, and there are no sharp little teeth to puncture tender skin, or any toilet training required.  The older puppies come ready-made and and without any surprises, and that's really worth considering.
