Tues 17th Jan: In and out shiba

The shiba was in and out

I was right when I said yesterday that there was a chance the shiba inu could be adopted before many of you read the post, because that's just what happened.  To recap, a shiba and a Belgian shepherd had been left at a groomers and never picked up by their owner, who has since become uncontactable (as confirmed later by AFCD).   I assume the grooming shop will close over the Chinese New Year holidays, so finding a place for the two abandoned dogs was imperative and we agreed to take them in.  We now know that the shiba is actually somewhat older than we were told, and the (maybe not 100%) Malinois is exactly a year old.  She's now called Mochi and is staying at our Tai Po Homing Centre, and she's a beautiful dog as well as being very sweet.  It's probably in her favour that it seems she's not a purebred Malinois, but she's still going to need a home that's suitable for a large and smart dog.
Mochi is beautiful

Little Banjo likes to have his own space

Iris came over to Lamma to say hello to the smaller dogs, and to introduce a Life Saver Club member to the dog they're sponsoring.   I always enjoy seeing the photos, and on this occasion to hear how readily some of the shy dogs accepted strangers in their home, in this case best friends River and Rumble.  I still hope that one day they'll find a home of their own, but it has to be the right one of course.  The dogs seem to get along well as a group, but they still tend to pair up for play sessions.  River and Rumble play non-stop, as do Henry and Tessa, while the "Cricket" family of four still like to sleep together on their sofa.  I still wonder about their story, where they lives before and in what circumstances.

The ex-breeder Pekingese Gherkin is doing really well in his foster home where he's recovering from surgery, which included removing one eye that was already blind (see the video).

It's quite amazing how dogs bounce back from what would probably have humans feeling terrible for some time.  If you're interested in offering Gherkin, or the other two-eyed peke, Pumpkin, a forever home, please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
