Thurs 7th April: Please microchip and license your dog

"Billy" is apparently a corgi-rottweiler cross

We almost had another new recruit at our Tai Po Homing Centre, one of those types I call Big-Little dogs, meaning large sized bodies but with short legs.  "Billy" was found as a stray and without a microchip to identify any owner, so we had everything done at ALCVC as well as a health check. I was just about to post him for adoption when it turned out he was a lost dog and had an owner who was looking for him. Of course we have to return "Billy", but it's really hard to understand why any dog isn't microchipped and licensed so if lost it's easy to find out who the owner is. Apart from anything else, it's a legal requirement for any puppy over five months of age, and saying you didn't know isn't good enough.  If you have a car you know that you have to have it licensed and insured, not to mention having a driving license, so why would you not bother to find out about your dog?

When I watch the videos of puppies in their foster homes and the amazing training they're getting, I know that even if they can't stay in their temporary homes for ever they'll be leaving with the best possible start in life.  Go to our Facebook page Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR)  to see Reece and Roland going through their routines, even barking on cue!  It's really very impressive, and we have so many other puppies also going through similar training basics in other foster homes, meaning when they're adopted the hard work is already done.  Thank you once again to all of our wonderful foster parents for your incredible work.

I'm reluctant to share the list of available puppies because a few of them have adoption interviews arranged so may be in their new homes by the time the weekend is over.  It's also hard to keep up-to-date with the photos and videos because puppies grow and change so fast, but I'm happy to confirm that we will be re-starting our Sunday Puppy Parties at Whiskers N Paws this weekend, although on a much smaller scale than usual.  We currently have three puppy siblings due to move in to Whiskers N Paws as full-time guests, although William may already have been adopted by Sunday.

The puppies shown on this list are only the older ones who are ready to move to new homes, but we have a long list of not-quite-ready puppies whose names will be added as they reach eight weeks:
