Mambo is medium-sized |
How could Mambo, a super-soft and lovely boy puppy still be waiting for his forever family to come along and whisk him off to his new life? The last of the "Ears" litter (although they have by now grown into them), Mambo has been an "almost adopted" too many times, so who can give him the best Christmas ever? He's waiting for that moment at Whiskers N Paws, along with new companion Yuri after brother Muppet left last week.
Chimney's adoption also leaves sibling Cherry as the last of her gorgeous litter, and you can find Cherry's photos in the lovely set Puppy Adoption 11th Dec 2022 taken by our long-term volunteer photographer Eric Tang.
Sir Walter Scottie |
Scottish terrier Walter left to join another ex-HKDR Scottie, plus a Westie, and although technically a trial to see how the three get along I've seen a few videos showing that the trio look as though they're already best friends. Somehow I can't see Walter coming back.
Lastly we had another lovely "foster fail" as doglet Charlie's permanent residency was confirmed. He and sister Cressie have been in their foster home for a long time, and although Cressie is a lovely, sweet and well-behaved girl, the family already have a dog and didn't want to end up with three. If you want to adopt a young dog who's been in a loving home and is a perfect all-round sweetheart, please consider Cressie.
Cressie |
It's only two weeks until Christmas, and I'm sure you all know that puppies are not Christmas gifts that last a couple of weeks, but a lifelong commitment. That means an average of fourteen years, or even longer for a small sized dog, so please think very hard if you're planning to give in to a young child's plea for a puppy. Having said that, if the family has been planning to adopt a puppy for some time and has given a lot of thought to what that means, then why not? The only thing you need to bear in mind is that a new home can be quite scary and confusing for a puppy, or even an adult dog, so if the Christmas celebrations are going to be noisy or hectic, make sure your new family member has a quiet space to retire to.
I saw that the weather is about to get even colder than it currently is, so now's the time to head over to our Tai Po Homing Centre to choose that dog you've been wanting to bring home. Most dogs cope very well with colder weather, in fact they enjoy it, but the short-haired types can find the low temperatures very challenging. I have given my Lamma dogs fleecy blankets to makes nests out of, although for some they end up being ripped to shreds. Even senior dogs enjoy tearing things up (unfortunately), but even a torn blanket makes a soft bed when the games are over.
