Sat 10th Dec: From Bimble to books

Bimble was returned just over a year ago

I shouldn't write about adoptions that haven't been completed yet, but I'm sure that this one is going ahead as promised, with Bimble being scheduled for pick up from Tai Po early next week.  Bimble was yet another failed puppy adoption, having been taken home by another family as a baby and then returned as an adult.  Adoptions from our Tai Po Homing Centre are always a cause for celebration, but even more so when we have a connection to the dogs from their very early lives.
Gunner has his new family

Two puppies were also adopted from Kennedy Town, and in fact I thought it was going to be three up until the very last minute when the potential family decided to think about it overnight. Although disappointing, I'm also grateful when the decision to adopt is taken seriously because the last thing any of us want is another Bimble situation, or indeed any of the other puppies-now-dogs who end up coming back.

Cotton was also chosen today

Today's lucky pups were Gunner and Cotton, both very lovely youngsters.

I mentioned that the "T" puppies had been moved from HKDR@Elgin to Kennedy Town so their health could be more closely monitored, but rather than there being four of them, Tessa had already been taken for a short trial to see how the resident dog liked having a new puppy in the home.  It must have gone well because Tessa's adoption was confirmed today too.

Who will be the lucky Sunday puppies I wonder?  You can have fun meeting a whole bunch of them at Whiskers N Paws from 2pm to 4pm, or any time between 10am and 6pm at our other three locations, two being in Kennedy Town and the other at 22 Elgin Street, Soho.  Take a look at the fun the puppies have at our Elgin Street location, because just as nature intended they are still together as a litter and playing until they drop.  Although initially very shy, they have changed and opened up a lot to the idea that humans are actually OK, and certainly a few of them are ready to be adopted.

We often receive requests from under-18s to volunteer as dog walkers, and although we can't accept hands-on help with the dogs from our younger supporters, there are different ways to support HKDR.  Thea Tom, who is only seven years old, has created a wonderful book called "Wild Animals A-Z", and all proceeds from the sale will go to HKDR and Animals Asia.  I should also mention that Thea's family have adopted a few dogs from HKDR, from small to large, the first one being an old pug many years ago when HKDR was in its infancy and long before there were any children. I can see that Thea's love for animals will be a lifelong passion, and you can order the book from http://lifelonglabs.org/thea
