My life and thoughts are currently overshadowed by the knowledge that I have a missing dog out in the hills of Lamma somewhere, and I don't even know where to start looking. My neighbour offered to help with his drone today, but spotting a smallish dog in amongst trees and long grass is like the proverbial needle in a haystack. I keep hoping that she will suddenly turn up, but it's been five days now and being realistic I can't see that happening.
With the weekend here again, this is a time when I'm always hoping to hear from the various Centres that a dog or puppy has been chosen, and just as a reminder we have younger puppies at three different locations now, those being HKDR@Elgin (22 Elgin Street, Soho - watch the video), and two Kennedy Town Centres at Shop 4, Brilliant Court, Sai Hong Lane, 28 Praya Kennedy Town, and 13-19 North Street. Two now slightly older puppy brothers are also full time residents at Whiskers N Paws, and I can't recommend these boys highly enough. They are medium sized, and with fantastic natures, calm and gentle with children. Muppet and Mambo Muppet (M) Mambo (M) are definitely top puppies, and you can meet them any day at Whiskers N Paws, 10/F Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau.
Knowing that many of you check my blog to hear about incoming dogs and puppies that may be of interest, you're in luck today because there are some coming next week from AFCD. I know that despite this being a difficult period for adoptions due to the upcoming holidays and the fact that many families are heading out of Hong Kong for Christmas and New year, I'm anticipating a rush of enquires for these puppies. As always, and especially since they aren't actually with us yet, we will choose the homes that we think can offer the best life, and I'll say sorry in advance to those who aren't successful.
There are two older yellow labrador puppies, one male and one female, aged ten and eleven months. a female whippet (six months), a male Maltese (six months), a one year-old male Scottish terrier (Scottie) and a five month-old Japanese Spitz (male).
Remember to complete the adoption questionnaire if you're interested in any dog or puppy: www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
I'm sure that everyone knows that giving a puppy (or any living animal) as a gift is a very bad idea, and many of the purebreed puppies that we've taken in over the years have been unwanted gifts. Bringing a puppy into your life and home is something that means a commitment of around fifteen years, and often longer for the smaller dogs. That means if your child is five years old and wants a puppy, by the time the dog's life ends the child will be an adult. During the intervening years there will be school, activities, studies and friends that will take priority over the dog and its needs, and again this is why many dogs are surrendered or abandoned as the child loses interest. Please do not give in to a young child's demands or pleas for a puppy unless you, the adults, also want to have a dog and you have the time to give it the company, training and exercise that every dog needs.
We have the perfect solution to the perennial problem of what to give to someone who already has everything they need, or to a child who wants a puppy but you know it's not possible. Instead of a living animal, why not give the Gift of Love this Christmas
