Thurs 14th Dec: This year's HKDR Christmas Party

Going home for Christmas
The pointer puppy that arrived on Thursday was adopted this morning as anticipated, and now we are waiting to find out if the sister, and last of the litter, will also be surrendered to us.  Accidental pregnancies and births are all too common, and it's amazing how many dog owners seem to be ignorant of the fact that non-desexed males and females will mate, guaranteed, given any opportunity to do so, and size doesn't matter.  A chihuahua will mate with a rottweiler if the female is in season and the male has access, so thinking it's not possible is incorrect.
Sadly rescue came just too late for this Frenchie

At least the pointers came from a home and not a breeder, unlike the French bulldog I mentioned yesterday, the one who had suddenly become paralysed.  He (or she, we never found out) was on his way to us when his condition suddenly deteriorated, so rather than being dropped off at the vet clinic for us to pick up he was euthanised.  We had a foster home standing by so it was very sad, but these breeds who are churned out like factory products are genetically prone to health problems and too often sick.  In a way the mixed breeds are lucky in that at least they escape the horrors of the back street breeders and all the suffering that comes with it.  Their misfortune is that they are far less likely to be adopted.

If you're still rushing around trying to find gift for Christmas, remember we have online sales of our HKDR merchandise for a limited period, or you could adopt a Harmont & Blaine dachshund at a very special price and donate to HKDR at the same time.

This Saturday evening we have the HKDR Christmas Party taking place at the Tamar Park in Central. where the Great British Food Festival is taking place so there will be loads of things to eat and drink, as well as lots of fun things to do.  We threw around lots of ideas about where to go this year, and as it happens we could probably have taken over our soon-to-be new Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre before anything was moved in, but this seemed like a great idea as all catering will be taken care of and in a central and easy-to-get-to location.

Hong Kong Dog Rescue will be celebrating Christmas with volunteers, staff, adopters, foster parents and supporters at The Great British Food Festival, Tamar Park, Central.  7pm to 11pm.

Links of London will have a beautiful Christmas Tree on site and there will be a giant snow globe, provided by British Airways - perfect for photos!

This dog-friendly event has catering from 8 restaurants all with a British theme plus bars and entertainment.

Entry is free, you just need to pay for food or drink once inside.

A great way to celebrate Christmas with HKDR. We look forward to seeing you there!
