Weds 14th June: Shuffling foster puppies

When I got this photo of Bertram all I could say was Wow!
Cindy and I have been trying to sort out some foster puppies who need to move from their current temporary homes, or have already done so, including handsome Stanley Barracks boy Bertram.  This gorgeous young boy left one foster home for another today, and although he must be sad at losing the family he had come to see as his own, including puppy friend Jerry, he has certainly come up trumps in his new place where he has a swimming pool to cool off in when the sun comes back.  Bertram is still waiting for a forever home, and you couldn't find a better dog than him as he has a gentle nature combined with good looks.  His friend Jerry will have to return to Lamma and his siblings Jimmy and Josie, and I hope they won't be too unkind to him.
Josie, Jerry and Jimmy are part of the "J" litter

Wendy last Sunday
Another foster puppy that will be needing a new place to stay, hopefully permanent, is Wendy.  Now four months old she is one of those pups I was sure would quickly be chosen as a baby as she was so incredibly and fluffily gorgeous, but as I know from many past experiences, you can just never tell.  Wendy's current foster parent says she is a very sweet and easy girl and no problem at all in her home, so maybe this week will be her lucky one?  If you are interested in meeting Wendy on Sunday or in her foster home before then, please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.
Baby Wendy

It's a fact that once a puppy leaves the litter, whether for fostering or adoption, and comes back to Whiskers N Paws on Sundays to find or home or just for a play, they're usually given a cool reception by the remaining siblings.  It doesn't last for long as puppies are puppies and generally accept all others as their friends, but it's the smell of another home and strangers that marks returnees as targets.  Once they've been jumped on a few times all is forgiven and they are allowed to re-join the group.

Bonzo last Sunday at Whiskers N Paws
Another Stanley Barracks boy has an adoption interview on Saturday and assuming all goes well Bonzo won't be back at Whiskers N Paws for this Sunday's puppy afternoon.  I can't imagine what could go wrong as he is the easiest of characters, but he will also be upset about leaving his family behind, humans and dog friends.

I feel sorry for the dogs and puppies that have to move from home to home before finally settling with their forever families (if they are lucky enough) but that's the way it has to be, and at least it gives us a chance to find out about their characters and suitability to be with children or other dogs.  Puppies are obviously more adaptable and accepting of change, but most dogs settle well with time.

I had a quick check of the weather forecast for Sunday and it was the only day that looked fine in a week of black clouds and rainstorms, so for once I hope the HK Observatory got it right. Regardless I'll be there, with lots of puppies and a heart full of hope.
