Tues 20th June: More puppies on the way

If the HK Observatory weather forecasts can be believed, the rain will be easing off soon and we'll be seeing the sun again.  Still, I'm enjoying the cooler temperatures if not being constantly damp, and I was reminded about the dangers of heatstroke on reading that dogs are dying in the UK due to the unusually hot weather there at the moment.  I think we are more aware of the risks here as the summers are always sweltering, but nevertheless there are inevitably fatalities every year.

Lara at work with Cactus
There has been a lot of anger about the story of Lara and her being so cruelly abandoned on the street on Sunday, so here is a photo of her at work with our trainer, Cactus.  Lara is a very sweet puppy, and we are all really hoping that she will find a new home very soon.
The chairs at Acorn provide a good photo background

My two baby pups went off to their foster home today, freeing up my work space again which makes life a bit easier, but there are more coming in later this week.  Once again we will be needing new foster homes for four lovely two month-olds so please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com if you can help.

Luckily Minty escaped a life of breeder hell
I recently posted about two border collies that we took in from a breeder, and I'm happy to report that both are doing very well in their respective new homes. However the black-and-white girl, now called Minty, has had a very sad life to date as X-rays showed both of her back legs had been broken at some point (and self-healed), and she has had amateurish Caesarians which left bad internal scarring.  Maybe that was her ticket to freedom as she probably can't have further litters, but once again I want to make it clear that buying puppies from breeders like these is supporting a terrible and cruel trade.  Minty is a very sweet girl but she is also afraid of everyday things and is having to learn that life and people can be good.

Please please don't buy puppies.  There are so many really beautiful lives that need saving through adoption, and there is never any excuse to give money to breeders or pet shops.
