Fri 3rd Feb: Test run a mixed breed puppy

Just by chance I saw a memory from seven years ago pop up on my own Facebook page, complaining about the fact that our Hong Kong Dog Rescue website had been hacked.  I don't know if this is what's happened to our website again now but it seems to crash just as it's been fixed, so the application forms for adoption, fostering or volunteering are available intermittently.  It's really so frustrating, and especially because we really need to hear from anyone who's interested in any of these things.

Scooter

Top of the list of importance is adoption, but many of the enquiries are for poodle puppies, labradors or similar, and I do need to remind everyone that although we do occasionally have such dogs available (really very rarely), as a rescue organisation almost all of the dogs and puppies that come to us are mixed breed.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with mixed breeds, in fact I can talk endlessly about the benefits of not being inbred and looking just the same as every other dog of the same type.  Mixed breeds are unique, special, and with their own personality and character.  They can be large or small, just like Scooter who was chosen today, a day after his sister was adopted.  Gorgeous scruffy terrier Maisie will also be leaving our HKDR@Elgin Cente on Saturday, and she's another amazing mixed breed, so happy and friendly.

Our smallest mixed breed is Stella, a tiny little thing with an incredible personality.  To ignore her because she has a wonky little smile and a no-breed tag makes no sense to me.

The owner of this young shiba wants to re-home him

We are frequently asked to accept shiba inus that their owners want to surrender, but the reason is because they are difficult dogs, at least if you don't understand the breed and appreciate their strong character.  We also currently have someone  wanting to surrender a corgi for the same reason, and that is guarding behaviour, a trait common in both shibas and corgis.   If you want to know about the corgi, a two year-old female, or the shiba, a one year-old male, you can complete the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/, but we can't have these types of dogs in our Homing Centres.

Take a puppy for a trial and see how sweet they are

I want to make an offer that I hope some of you can't refuse, and that is to foster one of our lovely mixed breed puppies so you can see what I'm talking about.  These are our "M" and "V" litters, fantastic girls and boys who are the perfect age for becoming a family member.  We will provide everything you need in terms of food, bed, toys etc, and all we ask is that you give the puppies your time and love and a chance to prove themselves.  If you like this idea, please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.
