Tues 11th Oct: We need YOU!

Turpin is always looking for love and attention

As promised, or warned depending on how you see it, I'm determined to find a home for doglet Turpin who is now staying at our Kennedy Town Homing Centre.  He's doing OK all things considered, meaning this is the first time he hasn't been living in a real home since he was a very young puppy, but he's desperate for love and attention.  There must be just the right home waiting for a loving companion like Turpin, and if that's you please let us know by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

The smaller dogs staying at Elgin Street

If you're able to spare some time to help with taking care of the dogs, we need you at our HKDR@Elgin location in Soho where the newest small and medium-sized dogs are now staying.  Cam is the manager there, and you can email her directly at elgin@hongkongdogrescue.com to sign up a few hours whenever you have the time.  (Breaking news: Skye is adopted).

We always need volunteers at our Tai Po Homing Centre, especially during the week, so although you may have to wait to join an orientation session at weekends, if you can come to help out from Monday to Friday we can fast-track you.  We do, however, need volunteers who can come on a regular basis, not just a day or two.   If you can help out during the week please email tp@hongkongdogrescue.com directly, otherwise please sign up via our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/

We're also looking for a paid staff member at Tai Po, so if working with dogs is your dream, your wait is over!

We are now looking for a new full-time or part-time staff member at our Tai Po Homing Centre.
We hope that one of the existing volunteers will want to step up, as it's obviously helpful if any applicant already understands what's involved, but maybe there's the perfect dog lover out there who dreams of working with dogs as a career. However, due to the size and location of our Tai Po Homing Centre, meaning it's a very large area built on a steep slope, we need someone who is physically fit and strong as well as everything else.
For the right person working with HKDR means joining a big family all of whom have the same interests and aims, that is to help as many dogs as possible. The ultimate goal of course, is that the dogs find their own homes and leave the Homing Centre, but with hundreds of hopefuls the chances are that many will stay with us for their whole lives, so giving them the best we can offer is important.
If you're interested in applying for the job, this is what we're looking for:
You must hold a Permanent Hong Kong ID Card
- Be over 18 years of age
- Be willing to work outdoors with a lot of dogs
- Be mentally mature, able to cope with whatever challenges occur
- Be able to work as part of a team
- Have a good basic understanding of dogs and their care
- Be willing to work long hours
- Either Cantonese speakers or English speakers are welcome, yet most of our communications are in English so we need someone who is able to speak and read basic English
We can't offer riches in return, but if the idea of sitting in an office every day horrifies you, and you want a meaningful job that gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you're making a real difference, maybe this is for you. Please send you application and CV to eva@hongkongdogrescue.com, or if you're already a Tai Po volunteer please speak to the staff members at the Homing Centre and let them know you're interested in working with HKDR.
