Sun 17th June: A very special adoption

17 year-old Squash was adopted today!
When we took in the large number of (supposed) ex-breeder dogs recently and discovered that one of them, a cocker spaniel, was seventeen years old, we didn't hold out much hope that he would ever be adopted.  Apart from the age there were also two anal masses dicovered during the health check, which could be benign but we wouldn't know without surgery.  That in itself is risky in a very old dog, and the location of the growths another problem.  Anyway, before having to make any decision, Squash was adopted today!  The family who took him are fully aware of his condition but came especially for him, so we can't say thank you enough times.  What an amazingly kind act, to take on a very old dog and knowing that he may already have a life-threatening disease.  Wow!

Heather the papillon was also adopted from our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, while poodle Turner was taken for a trial to see how and and the resident pom get on.

It was quite a strange afternoon at Whiskers N Paws because the two very young pups, new baby Biba and "Rubbish" girl Winkle, were adopted together very early on and after that it was quite quiet, at least in terms of adopters.  Puppy Martha had her adoption confirmed after being taken home last Sunday, so we can add her to make a total of three.

Winkle and Biba were adopted together

Instead we had two very welcome Two Presents birthday donations, from Emma and Grace (separately of course), so thank you to both girls for showing great kindness in sharing your speial days with the dogs and puppies.
Grace had an early 9th birthday she she could share with HKDR

Elena Mathew was today's volunteer photographer at Whiskers N Paws, and there are so many wonderful shots that it's hard to choose any particular ones for sharing Puppy Adoption Day 17 June 2018 .  However for me I love the photos of the older puppies playing, in this case Willy, Bertie and Buzzy. They don't know that they are all waiting for homes, they are just living in the moment and having a great time.
Willy, Buzzy and Bertie played for 3 hours non stop
Emma shared her 8th birthday with the dogs and puppies of HKDR

Although we didn't have any confirmed adoptions at Tai Po, old-timer Hill was taken for a trial.  Hill has been with us for a very long time, since the early days of the Homing Centre, so we have our finger crossed that he won't be coming back.

  1. I'm so happy to learn that Squash was adopted, at 17 years old. She will finally have some love and comfort in her old age. XXXXXXXX
